Live Blog – NSW Women’s Premiership Round 3 vs Canterbury Bulldogs

The weekend action wraps up with a derby game in the NSW Women’s Premiership as Parramatta and Canterbury get into it at Kellyville. The Eels continue to rotate in NRLW talent alongside a host of pathways prospects as they ramp up for Round 1 of the NRLW and the girls will be keen to bounce back from a loss to the Central Coast Roosters last week.

Kickoff is at 3:00PM!

First Half

Parra kick off under threatening skies and it’s a clever kick that finds touch. Scrum 25 out. Gray takes it to the ten. Left through quick hands to Morrissey who’s tackled centimetres short. Soufan grubbers and earns a drop out.

Eels drive back into the red zone and the posts. Right now and Carlisle throws a spectacular cut out to Crichton-Ropati who’s tackled centimetres sprints to the line for a diving finish.

Eels 4 Bulldogs nil after 4 minutes

Eels advance past halfway late in the set after points and the kick finds the turf ten out. Dogs make an error mid set. Eels scrum.

Fa’amausili is testing the defence with every run. Eels penalty comes 25 out. Wide ball to Fay and a great tackle saves a try. Dogs defend well and an Eels error on the last rewards them.

Solid Dogs set comes to an end with an overcooked kick for a seven tackle re set. Beckett! What involvement this set as firstly she hoists a genuine spiral bomb to force the error. Eels clean up the scraps and they come right via Beckett to Crichton-Ropati who plunges over for an early double.

Eels 8 Dogs nil after 13

Nice dart from Morgan late in the set after points to take Parra into Dogs half. Awkward bomb from Beckett finds the turf but the bounce is kind. Strong reply from Bulldogs this set as they make serious metres through the ruck. The Dogs 5/8 is finally unstoppable in a 15 metre surge to the posts. Conversion nailed.

Eels 8 Bulldogs 6 after 17 minutes

Dogs error in the play the ball as they crossed into Parra’s half. And the lesson isn’t learned by Parra either as they immediately play the ball incorrectly three tackles later!

Grubber from the Dogs 5/8 late in the set and Carlisle fumbles. Dogs scrum ten out. Dogs lost ball in contact.

Massive post contact metres by Gray to set up the last tackle kick. Dogs cross halfway mid set then the kick is fielded by Crichton Ropati who slips then somehow beats about five defenders in a charge to the 20. Eels error comes late set 45 out.

Dogs get to the last and the kick earns a line drop out. Parra defend well and the Dogs seem to have lost count as they do a basic hit up on the last.

Carlisle splits them with her incredible pace but she forces an unnecessary pass on the third tackle and the Dogs fall on it. Another Dogs kick is perfectly weighted but Crichton Ropati gets to the ten. Eels penalty.

Beckett and Matthews link on an edge late in the set before the Beckett kick on the last is fielded 20 out. Dogs complete the set via a kick to Crichton Ropati. Eels lose their way this set but get a fortunate six again off the kick. Back to the red zone and Carlisle creates space for Crichton Ropati who steamrolls the fullback to plunge over for a first half hat trick.

Dogs kick off. Eels complete the set with a kick to the red zone. Dogs do the same with a kick to Crichton Ropati. Eels work another solid set and the kick chase nails the fullback 15 out. Dogs error 35 out and Eels scrum. O’Loughlin with a hit up. Morgan very busy and works a play with Lenaz before earning a penalty herself. Play stays left side and good hands to Morrissey who releases Fay for a try in the corner. Carlisle is the new kicker and her attempt from the sideline goes close but not close enough

Eels 16 Bulldogs 6 after 43 minutes

Parra cross halfway late in the set and they run it on the last. Go through quick hands right and Carlisle puts Takairangi into space. The centre draws the defence and passes to Crichton Ropati for try 4!

Kick is well short

Eels 20 Dogs 6 after 46 minutes.

Parra complete the set then the Dogs succumb to physical defence from Morgan and the ball comes free. Parra get expansive in response. They go left via Carlisle but the pass misses the mark and the Dogs clean up. The error comes soon after – Eels scrum.

Back to the red zone. Kennedy runs off Gray then Fa’amausili is pulled up a metre out. Look out Morgan has had a dive from dummy half and she’s over!

Jones converts the easiest shot of the day

Eels 26 Dogs 6 after 52 mins

Eels are quickly back to the red zone but the ball comes free in contact.

Great metres from the Dogs this set as they move down to the red zone. Superb tackle from Ropati to prevent a try. High cross field kick from the Dogs and they catch it and offload but more incredible defence this time from Fay to shut it down and force an error.

The teams trade sets then Beckett delivers a near perfect kick to the dogs on goal. The chase almost forces a drop out but the fullback just gets into the field of play then the Dogs earn a penalty.

Eels defend well as they lose Takairangi to injury and Morgan shifts to centre. Down to the red zone again for Parra but a Dogs kick deflection is ruled not played at and they start this set 20 out.

Jones cleans up then Fay works an old fashioned run around late in the set. Another Beckett kick puts the Dogs under pressure but they field it and receive a penalty.

Good line speed in defence from Parra and the Dogs kick goes out on the full at the end of the set. Poor pass from Parra spoils the next set and the Dogs get another chance as they start their next set 40 out.

Dogs work play right and create an opportunity in the corner but Morrissey does superbly to drive in and force a poor offload from the Dogs runner.

Another incomplete Eels set with an error 20 out.

Dogs head left and create space for the winger who dives over just inside the post.

Angled conversion bounces off the upright and goes through!

Eels 26 lead Dogs 12 after 69 minutes

Dogs play out five tackles in the set after points and the siren goes
