Live Blog – Jersey Flegg Cup Round 5: Eels vs Tigers

The venue and the scheduling of this week’s Jersey Flegg Cup match is somewhat more supporter friendly. It follows on from the Junior Rep fixtures at Kellyville and kicks off at 2pm.

Parra come into this contest on the back of an unlucky two point loss to the Panthers. That takes their season record to two wins, a bye and a loss. The Tigers are undefeated with a draw going alongside two victories.

There are many new faces to the club for Parra so there’s plenty to learn about what each player brings to the PARRAdise table.

Match Updates

First Half

Tigers kick off and the Eels complete a great set earning a line drop out. Lucien goes close in the ensuing set as he’s held up over the line. Another terrific kick to earn a drop out but the Tigers find the line with their drop out.

Tigers complete their set and the Eels get a penalty on their next possession. They go wide left mid set in the red zone but it comes undone as the ball goes into touch.

Tigers again complete their set with a kick to Parra’s red zone and now the sets are traded before the Tigers get a genuine attacking chance in Parra’s quarter. Their opportunity comes undone with an error ten out. The Eels look good in their next set which they complete with a grubber ten out. It’s ruled that Kakoi has knocked on. Tigers penalty early next set and their players are pushing and verballing their old team mate Miller.
Second phase play from the Tigers is creating problems for Parra this set. They swing the ball wide to the right winger at the end of the set as the defence slides and it’s enough for the touch judge to rule the winger has lost the ball over the sideline in goal.

Twenty metre restart and terrific metres this set. Down to the quarter and the ball comes right to Leigh before he draws the defence and puts Maa-Nelson into space down the touchline and the winger dives over in the corner.

Conversion misses.

Eels 4 Tigers nil after 17 minutes

Eels penalty in the kick off set helps to set the platform for an attacking set. And the Eels take full advantage. After getting deep into the red zone the ball is played a metre out. Hudson then catches the defence asleep and goes himself from dummy half, wrestling out of the tackle to ground the ball.

Conversion from Moujali hits the very top of the goal post and bounces in a straight line, leaving the call as no goal.

Eels 8 Tigers nil after 21 minutes

I’m still typing up the last score as the Eels return to the red zone. Visconti has a powerful charge towards the posts and it’s followed by quick hands through Leigh and Kakoi to Maa-Nelson who beats about three defenders before being held up. Hand over.

Eels penalty off the Tigers clearing kick and we’re soon back in the red zone. Last tackle kick by Moujali goes towards the left wing and the ball comes free after the contest and it sees an Eels player ground the ball – the ref rules knock on.

Tigers line break follows and the chase back by Leuluai proves crucial as his tackle knocks the ball free 20 out.

Parra are winning the physical battle and that’s translating to territory and the opportunity for attacking kicks. But an average kick and chase relieves the pressure and the Tigers get a deeper kick away next set then follow that up by forcing an Eels error 20 out.

Terrific line speed from Parra this set and then the last tackle kick is navigated with a trap and scrap.

The touch judge misses some work on an Eels players head next set. The Tigers defend well then get to a last tackle kick that’s lost by MaaNelson. Scrum now penalty to the Tigers. Big left side shift to the winger but great scramble from the defence including Leigh drives the winger into touch. Parra get to the Tigers quarter but the ball is lost late in the set. The Tigers now cough it up 30 out, mid set and Maa Nelson quickly picks it up. Face ball in the quarter to Kakoi and a superb on line tackle from the defender forces the ball free. Tigers have just enough time to try a chip kick and chase that’s followed by Moujali sweeping back for the scraps then launching his own chip and chase to the fullback as the siren sounds.

Half time Eels 8 Tigers 0

Second Half

Eels kick off. Tigers complete with a good kick and chase and the Eels can only get to halfway before they kick themselves. Bright attacking footy from the Tigers splits the Eels defence through the middle but the scramble comes for a fifth tackle in front of the posts. Wide left and they have Parra for numbers but again the scramble is superb as the centre steps back infield and is wrapped up.

Eels get to the kick but are soon penalised. The Togers work back to Parra’s red zone but the kick is way too deep. Taula fields it and races for the quick tap. Down into Togers territory and is that Ofanoa that split them? Regardless his support player has been tackled without the ball. Sin bin time. Back towards the posts and it’s a powerful surge from Stevenson-Hala that won’t be denied. Try time!

Conversion from Moujali

Eels 14 Tigers nil after 47 minutes

Eels make a mess of the last tackle as they try to run it 45 out. Tigers winger breaks down the left wing as the cover arrives too late. No it doesn’t as the ref rules held up!!!

They run it on the last but it’s a forward pass. Another Eels error in their own half and the Tigers are again attacking despite being a man down. Big cut out pass to the left winger but it goes wide of everyone and into touch.

Parra finally complete a set with a kick that Taula fields ten out from the Tigers line but he’s immediately tackled. Mid set error from Wests follows and Paara have prime territory.

Walker takes play left before the ball is delivered to Visconti for a hit up towards the posts. But it is no simple hit up as he steps the first defender then accelerates into space that he created and outsprints defenders to the line.

Moujali converts

Eels 20 Tigers nil after 57 minutes

A professional set after points with a kick to the left corner. Tigers winger tackled ten out. After they get to their kick the Eels have won the territory battle as they enter Tigers territory mid set. Razzle dazzle from Leuluai as he delivers the most deceptive flick pass to Taula who centre kicks for Leigh but the Togers player shoulders him away as he shadows the ball over the dead ball line.

Parra defend the seven tackle set and finally force an error on the red zone. They get to a kick and the chase forces an error and it should be a try but the ref penalised the contest. Tigers fail to find touch and the Eels respond by driving through the ruck off each play the ball to the posts. Hudson engages the defence and passes to Lucien who steams through the defenders to plant it between the sticks.

Moujali converts

Eels 26 Tigers 0 after 65 minutes

Eels get play back to the red zone but the Tigers receive a penalty early in their set. Down to Parra’s quarter and Miller is penalised for a squabble. Once again the Eels line speed is too

much for the tigers who cough it up for Beattie to swoop. The last tackle kick ensures the Togers are again rucking it out from their own quarter as the Eels apply the strangle. Yhe Togers kick from deep which means the Eels kick will be an attacking one. Indeed it is as Maa Nelson drives the fullback close to his own line. An awful pass from the Tigers to nobody gives Parra a line drop out but some scrappy play follows and they fail to take advantage of the tiring Tigers defence.

Now the Tigers spring to life with a line break and kick ahead but the the chase back from Parra wins the race to knock the ball dead.

Parta opt for a short drop out and tap it back. The Tigers player is in the way but he knocks on. No, the ref rules a one hand tap back. Penalty. A big charge at the line draws about five Eels defenders and leaves Maa Nelson almost on his own. The ball comes that way and it’s a simple matter of execution to score which the Tigers finally manage.

Conversion misses

Eels 26 Tigers 4 with three minutes remaining

Tigers break down the right wing following the kick off but the cover defence takes them into touch. Eels penalty soon after and a player on report. Nice run from Beattie gets the Tigers right back to their line. Parra head right but Leigh’s pass isn’t good and the Togers will get possession.

Attempted intercept and it’s a Tigers scrum now a penalty to them as the siren sounds as the Eels are found offside. The Tigers attempt to get expansive and drop the ball. Walker swoops and sprints 70 metres to the right corner, finishing with the big dive.

Conversion waved away

I have high hopes for Rankin as a coach. Looks like a team of no names. Have they been recruited or local juniors? Im aware Miller came from The Tigers. Don’t recognise many others.

      1. Leigh

After a rough check I believe there have been 26 different players used in the first four games.

Of those I reckon 17 have played for Parra in the last 2 years.

NB: the 26 above includes Devonte Vaivela, Ioane Lui, Mo Alameddine, Max Popo and Tyrese Lokeni who are all named in the KOE team for this week.

Taula – from Roosters for 2026 season

Walker – from Knights for 2026 season

Miller – from Wests for 2025 season

McMenemy – from Wests for 2026 season

Visconti – from Roosters for 2026 season

Parker – from Steelers for 2026 season

Ofanoa – from Storm for 2026 season
