The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!
We have our first NRL team list of the year and boy howdy does The Tip Sheet know it as Sixties and Forty20 have the podcast bursting at the seams this week – and that is even with the show returning to its usual three-a-week format. There is just that much to talk about this week including important shout outs for members of the Parramatta Leagues Club to vote for special resolutions as well a Sunday exhibition game at Ringrose Park good friends of TCT in the Physical Disability Rugby League.
The big news though is undoubtedly the hugely anticipated debut team list from Jason Ryles as the Parramatta Eels travel up the freeway to take on the Newcastle Knights on Friday. Ryles delivered big time with a cracking blend of youth and experience with the Parramatta’s commander-in-chief giving plenty of prospects a chance to shine this week. The boys share who they are looking forward to seeing most and what to expet from the Eels in their opening hit out of the year.
Other news from Parradise includes a new heritage jersy, the weekend wrap up from the Junior Representatives and a quartet of our NRLW stars turning out in the All-Stars game this week.
In the NRL there is plenty of action with the aforementioned All-Stars games headlining a full week of preseason action. Sixties and Forty20 share their tips for the game and their most anticipated match-ups in the general NRL contests.
Christian Welch has been forced into medical retirement after a series of back and leg injuries. The show pays tribute to the Melbourne Storm bookend and his successful career.
From there the show turns up the heat as the boys fire up on two fronts. Firstly is the continued discussion from the plans to trial a retroactive sin-binning protocol for high tackles. Parramatta’s Shaun Lane weighed in to the matter this week and provided greater insight into what players are concerned with. Secondly is the expected return of the National Youth Competition which in turn has dragged back the tiring discourse about the need (or massive lack thereof) for a NRL draft.
Good episode. Excited for this trials match with so many young players getting their first games as eels.
60’s or forty do you have any updates on if Hawkins might be playing or not?
P.S The rumour is not only did the dogs can Mahoney as captain, they also now apparently want to ship him off due to “salary cap pressure” 😵💫
Would any eels fans here have him back if he was to become free? Or should we ignore him if the option is there due to his past betrayal 🐀 to the mighty parra eels? 🤔

I wonder how much he “loves this club” now? I never heard him say that about Parra…
He was my favourite eel and I was pee’d off that we let him go but I’ve moved on.
As we all have JonBoy. I think we all understand a player wanting to sound like he’s happy to be at a new club. But if the Dogs move him on – and there might not be any truth to the rumour – but if they move him on that will be twice that they’ve parted ways with him. Whereas we tried to keep him.
Cheers Muz, I guess as far as a return for Mahoney is concerned, it’s straightforward – it will come down to whether Ryles believes he offers more than the current players and how much he’d cost.
Interesting that Gavin Orr is jumping on radio every few weeks (again today) to tell everyone how much interest Dylan has from other clubs. It is what it is but you don’t see managers of good players at other clubs auction them like this. Something doesn’t smell right when roosters and dolphins ceo have both said they don’t want to be used by this manager to pump up prices (one side surely is lying)
For mine Mr Mahoney can stay foot loose and fancy free. Invest in our young blokes who desire to be part of our club culture. We’ve got some talent here.
Agree mate. I’ve got no bad feeling for him but for me it would be a backward step.he made his bed so he can deal with itt
Ron, I’m not giving the media around Dylan a second thought.
60s will you be at Newcastle trial? I am planning on driving up from syd and checking it out with a mate and would like to say thanks for your efforts in person if you’re around
I’d be surprised if Reed would want to come back to Parra, but I could be wrong.
Reed has truly built a reputation as being a grub and maybe even reduced his own stock of late. Hopefully no clubs want him, and Ryles can pick him up cheaper. That’s if Ryles is even interested. Lol
When he left I picked that he would be the great white hope and then it would sour very quickly.
He was quite up front about always being a Bulldogs fan and how much it gutted him when he was originally cut after they informed him that he wasn’t good enough.
Damn , it would absolutely sting him if they got rid of him yet again !!
The Eels were always just another club to him and once the Bulldogs gave him the big bullshit talk, no amount of money from the Eels could compete.
That’s why all this talk about us not matching the Bulldogs was just so far off the mark.
Personally we shouldn’t treat him like a favourite son perhaps coming home as the Eels was never home to him.
I hope he fades to obscurity.
I reckon there are better players out there.
I really like Ryley Smith and I reckon Ryles does too.
I wouldn’t want Reed back he made his choice. As for Dylan there’s no way in hell he’s worth 1.2 million a season and no one will pay that. His manager is on drugs if he thinks that, Million dollar players win you comp’s, look what happened last year when Mitch went down, He needs to choose is he playing for money or to win premierships. I don’t think he will leave his manager is just looking after himself.
I suppose we all have our own opinions but I just think that Dylan has an abundance of talent but he’s just so much of an air head that he can’t match up his god given abilities with application and concentration.
I doubt he has been properly coached and I’m eagerly waiting to see what the current coaches can get out of him.
However, I think that Ryles has decided that he’s already hit his ceiling.
Can’t wait to see what Volkmann brings to the side.
I really rate him and if he smashes it in early season form, Ryles may decide that a million is better spent elsewhere.
