The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

The Eels suffered their first defeat at CommBank Stadium since Round 2 after getting run off the park by the New Zealand Warriors 46-10. Although the Blue & Gold were without a number of foundational players, their ruck defence was picked apart by the visitors. Brett Kenny joins The Tip Sheet live from Jacks Bar & Grill to share how he saw the loss.

Sixties and Kenny also talk about the recent ring ceremony for the all-conquering 1981-83 three-peat team. Kenny shares insight into the special brotherhood that remains as strong as ever with that team.

Tks gents& Brett Kenny. Even in the first 15 minutes when the Warriors’ discipline was poor, we looked shot. Their first raid down the blind side only needed a decent last pass then they busted us again on the left of the ruck ending in a try. Actually didn’t bust us, just ran through a gap. I was trying to assess the problem, but the tries came from anywhere and everywhere, even Penisini was off. They constantly created an extra man, their defence was smothering and energetic. We were the opposite. The stats I saw said +600 run mtrs, that’s huge and our starting pack was prettty well what we trot out each week. Could go on and on, but prob better to just let that one slip by.

BDon, as I said to Brett, when there are a certain number of key players missing, is there a tipping point? As for Will, he was quite unwell this week.

The only good thing to come out of the game I thought was the form of Shaun Lane.

He has played very little football this year but yesterday hit the ground running. I thought that was the worst game I have seen from both Will Penisini and Carty all year. Maybe they are missing Mitch?

In fairness to Will he looked to lack confidence in defence or understanding with Lumelume.

seriously ? Lane was terrible 2 tries where on him he tried to trip 2 players he through 2 bad off loads if that,s good form we are in trouble.

I must have been using different lenses to watch the game. Considering his circumstances he came back good and I thought that he improved as the game progressed. BA is starting him on Sunday so he must agree somewhat.

I was at the game Saturday and did not judge him on any commentor comments but by what I saw.

I was not aware of Wills illness coming into the game and that would somewhat explain his performance. I was talking to some friends before the game about Will and all agreed that his skill level is up there with the best centres in the game.

However I still think having Mitch and Russell around him will be a big boost.

I was quite disappointed by the forwards given the amount of times the Warriors went through the middle. And Will was a turnstile at centre which is so unlike him. That said given the disruption to the team I’m not going get too upset over the result. Parra are still a chance of a top four finish. And that Dogs v Bunnies game! Got home in time to watch that wild second half.

Shaun, I was concerned with how easily the Warriors busted us up through the middle. But there were excuses for Will as he had been unwell.

      1. Shaun

Ah, that would explain it. Hope he is fully recovered for next week. The same with the defence in the middle.

BA has now dropped Oggy back to SC. This would be some measure of how he viewed his game.

With Woody returning Rd 23 there is going to be a logjam around the Middles looking for a bench spot.

I see Woody, huge fan, as the number three based on his performances as a starting Middle.

That leaves Makatoa, Ogden and Joe O fighting for the last spot. Matto will be the other bench player.

Could Moretti be the utility if JH fails to return in 2023?
