The Parramatta Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and throughout Western Sydney,

No Eels player was stirring, not even Reed Mahoney;

Their kit bags were tossed in a corner somewhere,

I’ll wash the gear later, they’d told Sults without care;

King Gutho was nestled all snug in his bed,

Dreams of new haircuts swam round in his head;

Then visions of Dylbags and Makahesi did appear,

You call that a haircut, hey hold our beer;

A quick trim for Greig’s mullet surely wouldn’t hurt;

And good Lord can someone buy Matto a shirt!

Mitch Moses had locked his trusty Beamer away,

There’d be no repeat of Haze’s truck going astray;

Then a bald-headed man, came striding my way,

Some expletives confirmed, it’s surely BA;

With loyalty and wisdom, his coaches they came,

And as they approached, he shouted their names;

Now Murphy, Now Elkin, Now Mary and Kidwell!

On Carree, On Ennis, On Woolford and Pistol!

To the top of the table, a title must be found,

No second week exit, we’re grand final bound;

And so to the squad they looked for some gain,

Like Simonsson the winger, and the hooker, dear Rein;

Another Oggy was added, and Rankin returned,

Plus talented young players, ready to learn;

Naiduki, Tuipolotu and Komolafe bring the zoom,

Tohi, Mataele and Hollis they add the boom;

Yates and Hands provide the dummy half hustle,

Moretti, Jontay and Taateo the extra muscle;

Eels spreading the Christmas cheer

The 21 season unearthed brilliant young stars,

Back them all to be winners, they’ll certainly go far;

Like Sam Loizou, Jake Arthur and the speedy Sean Russell,

Hayze Perham, El Zakhem plus tough prop Ky Rodwell;

Next year awaits them, the future stays bright,

Minimal turnover kept the bulk of our might;

Junior and Reg will be winning the middle,

Ice on the edge, few players his equal;

Browny at lock, our favourite Cyborg in action,

Back to his best, legs now out of traction;

Marata leaves Eels opponents in fear,

Double that whenever Stoney comes near;

Will’s fend shoves centres right into next week,

Waqa’s footwork is dazzling, the bloke is a freak;

Lane creates havoc in the middle or out wide,

Oggy’s power capable of turning any tide;

Carty’s sleight of hand deserves much attention,

And Opa’s consistency is worthy of mention;

A special wish for Sivo’s recovery to be fast,

May he step away from the ghost of Fijian wingers past;

Excitement awaits Parra’s NRLW debut;

The squad is strong, despite being so new;

Coach Widders is back to steer the team’s ship,

Back them for the title, that’s my unbiased tip;

Why are BA, Buckets and the Board in such cheer?

Listen closely, you’ll hear them say without fear –

“Worry not Parra faithful, the Club’s kept its might’

Merry Christmas all Eels, to all Eels a good night!”

Have a wonderful Blue and Gold Christmas!

Eels forever

    Great work Sixties…..well done and thanks.
    Dr Seuss awaits you.

    It’s a shame the photo has the players in masks…..hard to work out.

    All done! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! May all Eels fans receive a present that says “Do not open till October 2022.”
