The Cumberland Throw were on hand late last week as Marata Niukore presented the 2021 Harold Matthews and SG Ball squads with their jerseys.
Niukore – a breakout star in 2020 and one of Parramatta’s’ great developmental success stories – spoke to both teams about his journey to the NRL and the significance that this opportunity provides them.
The attached gallery captures the special occasion as each player was congratulated by Marata. Such an event is a measure of the “one club” philosophy prevalent at the Eels.
While unfortunately none of the Tarsha Gale, Matts or Ball teams were able to launch their seasons with a first-up victory on the weekend, the three squads still have grand ambitions for the year.
Be sure to follow each of their campaigns right here on TCT as we chart their journeys to the finals and beyond!

This was terrific for us to attend. We were able to stay for the captains run process – terrific insight. Really appreciated the invite and being made so welcome by staff and players.
Young Cooper Sinclair sure looks tall
Very tall anonymous. I don’t have the stats but must be 6’3 or 6’4.
Great initiative by the club and good recognition for Marata
It was terrific to see him address the young blokes about his experience. Also thought the captains spoke well when they thanked him.
It’s an exciting time for these young fellas, and TCT got to share in it. Now don’t forget, one must get into bed before 10pm on the eve of the match – TCT included!
It had been a big day mate. Reckon I was asleep by 9!
What 9 AM Good read as always see you on thursday
