Will be interesting to see what boys that have not been named in the SG.Ball squad that might come back after preseason with u20s. players Tui – Utiokamanu – Parry – Curran – Kaufusi – Founa – Dunster – Brown – Aukafolau

Not expecting players to come back like – Tui – Utiokamanu – Kaufusi – Parry
Speculation is a player signed else where – Curran
Players that might come back – Founa – brown – Dunster – Aukafolau All depending how they all go pre season.

The new rookie contract system can not be implemented fast enough, benny. I don’t think it is a silver bullet solution but as it stands the usual culprits are just making a mockery of junior development and are vastly over-inflating the worth of young talent in the salary cap era. I can understand poaching talented kids from other squads, it is part and parcel of the game but I know why the likes of Parramatta and Phil Gould out at Penrith are quickly losing patience with the system when you hear about the sort of deals that certain clubs are handing out.

As for our SG Ball squad, we should be a good outfit regardless of how many kids are accelerated into the NYC. It will be interesting to see how many kids are accelerated into the Holden Cup from the get-go though.

Totally agree with you Forty 20. Poaching is unfortunate, ,but when your a club That doesn’t develop your own juniors, then clubs like Parra & Panthers will be attacked from outside clubs. If the rumour is correct with the value that’s been offered then I can understand how frustrating it would be to Parra officials. The kid is something special & its a shame clubs are paying massive amounts to intice kids to cross over. I wonder how they could afford it under the salary cap.? I do believe in loyalty specially when Parra have developed this particular player for years, BUT I can not blame the player for taking the offer, you play rugby league for a short time & its important to maker as much money as you can. Hope the kid kicks on & continues playing great footy, I just hope he didn’t rush into making this decision..

As for Ball. Will be very interesting. Either way they should still have a very strong team.

Love how Parramatta accelerate youngsters no matter there age into u20s footy. Its all about development & making them the best player they can be. With all roads hopefully leading to the NRL

It isn’t ideal to lose a player such as Curran, but I don’t believe that Parra are about to lose any sleep over it. Sometimes a player will take short term rewards over long term gain. This young kid may have done just that.

Thank you for the update 40. Great read and good to see the names.
I can provide a small background on one or two of these boys.
Samuel Kharwin, played football with Doonside primary hears ago. Had him in a junior school district team, and the boy was born in Liberia. Nicknamed him the ‘Liberian express’ for good reason. Was v raw. Glad to see him picked, and i was wondering how tall he may be now. He was v quick as an 11 yr old. Lovely kid back then.
Joseph masters is also a Sydney west boy. Was quiet tough and think he came from Merrylands / Guildford area, but not sure.
How can the nrl sit back and allow this to occur with young kids….?

Thanks for that Forty. I am very very happy for PJ Vaigalu and I do not need to go in to why, but this young bloke is a talent and is coming back from a badly broken leg. He has put his head down and bum up and worked hard, good luck young mate. thanks again to Ham and yourself.I am also peed off about how some clubs leave it to others to develop players sit back and throw silly money at them, it is just wrong

  4. Chris

So has Curran left the club, or has he yet to decide his immediate future?

Btw, Joshua Uta was crowned under-16s player of the year in New Zealand last year. He has received some very impressive representative honours across the ditch, and is a stocky middle forward-cum-dummy half with a high work-rate. However, he didn’t come to us direct as he was first spotted by the Illawarra Steelers.

    1. benny

Chris, is Josh Uta a out & out dummy half.? Or can he play other positions.? What are Joshua’s strengths, Ball work.? Speed.? Defence.? Endurance .? ect

There are some good Hookers at Parra so will make things interesting if he is as good as your sayong

        1. benny

Mitchy. Sorry mate what do you mean.? I was asking a simple question, knowing Parra have a few players in that position, and wanting to know the kids strengths. As it would make things interesting in the selection process. There is allways someone out there better and no body is Guaranteed a spot.

          1. Mitchy

Sorry mate i was referring to the ‘hookers’ part of your comment. Thats all no offence meant. In response Kyle Schneider was superb on Harold Matts this year. Luke Sommerton came off bench too and at times Schneider played half.

      1. Chris

He is a lock-forward in the old vernacular who can fill in at dummy-half. I’ve never actually watched him play. It’s just what I’ve read about him. I noticed that his was a new name on the Parramatta junior players list and just googled his details. How will he fair at Parramatta? Well, that’s up to him and for the coaching department to decide. But he does come well credentialed.

It’s very disappointing to lose Curran, but this just opens the door for other players such as Filia Utoikamanu, Josh Carr, Beni Valu and Michael Tupou, among them. It must have taken one ‘special’ offer to prise him away though. Perhaps he has been offered a top 25 spot in his first year out of high school, which is still a year away?

Does anyone know if Junior Fainga’a and Joshua Schuster are still with the club?

        1. benny

          Cheers Chris
Just looked the kid up, seems like he can play, achieved a lot in Nz. Good luck to the kid. Seems like he has talent. Can’t wait to watch him play in the trials.

        2. Hamsammich

Josh Schuster signed a long term deal with Manly last year but he wanted to come back to Parra. We wouldn’t allow him to break his contract with Manly.

          1. Chris

Remind me now, Manly is that new rugby league club in both the Parramatta and Penrith district comps that is playing out of Blacktown, right? Also known as the GWS Sea Eagles!

          2. Joe Briffa

Chris you really know how to ruin a nice relaxing day. I’m sure there are some clowns running and trying to ruin this great game of ours.

          3. Mitchy

That also could be Easts, Chris.heard they have juniors over the globe and no cap…? But i may be wrong. Known as East coast of everything….

      1. sixties

I’d honestly be trying to piece together little bits that I’ve heard so I don’t think I could explain it thoroughly. Maybe Forty can. I believe that French may have been on a rookie contract this year.

Different subject, anyone else having trouble 1ee ,dosent really matter full of rubbish most of time ?
