First Half

Some see-sawing exchanges to open this game but the Eels are on the board first via a lovely scrum move. John Paul Hohra throws a nice ball to make-shift centre Dennis Maitaia who runs an over s lines and scores in the left corner! Conditions are a bit greasy this morning to that was goods hands.

Try scored by Maiataia. Conversion unsuccessful by Schneider.

Parra lead 4-0

Two tries for the Eels now as Wellington Seve crashes over! Inside ball from either Brown or Field there (can’t recall if it was #6 or #7) and Seve’s footwork and strength are too much.

Try scored by Seve. Conversion successful by Schneider.

Parra lead 10-0

Dylan Brown comes up with the massive play against the run! Blocks the grubber kick from Manly in our red zone and scoops up the rolling ball to race 90m and score under the posts. Great awareness and speed on display there.

Try scored by Brown. Conversion successful by Schneider.

Parra lead 16-0

Half Time

Parra have had most of the running in the first half and will go into the sheds leading 16-0.

Parramatta Eels 16 LEAD Manly Sea-Eagles 0

Second Half

Phillip Fanane crashes over to the left of the posts! Looked to be held up initially but he rolled through the tacklers to score.

Try scored by Fanana. Conversion successful by Schneider.

Parra lead 22-0

Manly finally get on the board as they score down our right-edge on the back of a half bust from their backrower. Short pass from dummy half was enough to catch us out down the shortside.

Try scored by Manly. Conversion successful.

Manly trail 6-22

The Eels hit back quickly. Dennis Maitaia scoops up a wayward pass from a Manly player and races 50m downfield before linking up with Ronan King who races the rest of the way. He had scored for all money but the ref rules knock on! Turns out he dived too early and the ball got dislodged! Oh my. Manly turn it over on the next tackle though and a couple of plays later Valance Harris forces his way between two defenders to score!

Try scored by Harris. Conversion successful by Schneider.

Parra lead 28-6

The Eels have less than a minute on the clock from the kickoff but still find a way to go the length of the field and score the try that is they cherry on top! Cliff Lea’aetoa the beneficiary here.

Try scored by Lea’aetoa. Conversion successful by Schneider.

First Half

Great footwork from Ethan Parry there! Much like the Harold Matthews game, our first try comes from a set piece from a scrum win. Parry steps past the first defender and from there he it too big, too fast and too strong as he slices through out wide. Great try.

Try scored by Parry. Conversion unsuccessful by Seve.

Parra lead 4-0

On the back of a great run from Parry who carted the ball from the right edge back into the posts, Travis Turnbull has played the ball brilliantly down the left-edge. Swept behind and hit Noel Auckafolu with a money ball to see the youngest of the Auckafolau clan cross in the corner!

Try scored by Auckafolau. Conversion unsuccessful by Seve.

Parra lead 8-0

The Eels pick up six again in the Roosters’ red zone when Turnbull’s grubber is dropped. The Chooks are at sea down their right-edge and we got that way immediately. They race off the line to try and shut Tui down from the dummy half ball but he steps crisply to his right and then passes back to his left to find Benny Valu who strolls over as easily as you please.

Try scored by Valu. Conversion unsuccessful by Seve.

Parra lead 12-0

Now the ball-playing big men take over the play. Josh Curran hits Oregon Kaufusi with a gorgeous short ball at the line and ‘Origin’ carries multiple defenders over the line to score. Got to love the big men cracking the line that way.

Try scored by Kaufusi. Conversion successful by Seve.

Parra lead 18-0

The Chooks get on the board as they score from their own scrum set piece. An error from the kickoff set by the Eels gifts them the chance and they made us pay. Short side move down our right-edge. Seve is a bit tentative to make the first contact which sucks in his outside men and creates the overlap. The Chooks score in the corner.

Try scored by the Roosters. Conversion unsuccessful.

Roosters trail 4-18

Half Time

Parramatta Eels 18 LEAD Sydney Roosters 4

Second Half

Superb try for the Eels! It comes on the tackle after Tui Afualo deadset bulldozes a defender and gets the fast play the ball. We spin it to our right to the hands of Johnny Fonua who turns the nitrous on running an outside slant. The sliding defence gets to him in time but he manages to flick the ball back inside to Ethan Parry who scores!

Try scored by Parry. Conversion unsuccessful by Seve.

Parra lead 22-4

The Roosters hit back via a short ball to their #8. Fonua got across in cover but couldn’t quite stop him from reaching out and scoring.

Try to the Roosters. Conversion successful.

Roosters trail 10-22

Bit of a roll-on for the Roosters here. They make it two tries on the trot when Alex Seve is fended off by the #4 for the Tri-colours. He races into the backfield and links up with his halfback, the offspring of Adrian Lam who scores under the posts.

Try scored by the Roosters. Conversion successful.

Roosters trail 16-22

All the running if with the Roosters now. Another try comes from a scrum win. Tui might have been the culprit here for a missed tackle. It opened up some second phase play and the Roosters score in our left corner. Parra need to stem the bleeding badly now.

Try scored by the Roosters. Conversion successful.

Roosters lock it up at 22-all

What a huge set play there! On the fourth tackle attacking the goal line. Campbell jumps out of dummy half and dummies back inside to Dresler who was steaming in, he then turns it back inside to the SECOND runner! Michael Tupou was the man and he is way too powerful for the defenders there. Parra had to lift after a sluggish second half and they certainly did.

Try scored by Tupou. Conversion unsuccessful by Seve (how did he miss it!?!)

Parra lead 26-22

Phew, dramatic end to the game! Josh Carr loses the ball over the line to give the Roosters one last chance. They lose it back in turn and on the last play of the game Turnbull rolls the ball in behind to see Noel Auckafolau score. Lots of ooh, ahhs and gasps from the crowd in that passage of play.

Try scored by Auckafolau. Conversion successful by Campbell.

  1. DK Eel

Thank you again Forty. Heard on an FM radio station that was interviewing BA, that he was down at the game watching the district reps.

Once again, THIS is the reason why BA , without a doubt IS the driving force we need to keep at our club for years to come.

From the ground up, this bloke IS all Parra.

  2. Chris

I heard BA on MMM too (so much better than GB) and there was a massive roar on the radio. They asked him where he was and he said that the eels had just scored to go ahead 26-22.

So forty, BA beat you with that update !!

    Go Parra.

  3. Mitchy

A huge thanks 40/20. Great read. I gather the SG Ball team is getting the week off? I know the mats will.
Well said DK – this is why Sharpe was so right in bringing BA to the club as head coach.

Were the SG ball a bit nervous today Forty? They are a much better team than the blog indicates today.

    1. Hamsammich

We missed a lot of goals. If all of our goals were kicked we end up on 42 and win comfortably and there wouldn’t have been much of a comeback worry.

  5. dessy

sg ball play looser of souths v newcastle.. newcastle won 23-22 in extra time so parramata v souths next week in sgball

  6. Glenn

Need to defend a bit better in Ball team to advance. Getting to the pointy end of the comp now. Incidentally what a great name for a footballer (Ball), bit like the Mr Tree in charge of NSW Forests some years ago.

  7. Joe Briffa

Hi forty, even though I sit next to you most days I still don’t know how you do it and still enjoy the match, you are great keep up the good work. I will just add that the ball team was not at full strength yesterday’ I was informed that the players that have been out with injury could possibly be back next week, oh and by the way even though I watched the game live I still read your blog well done mate.

  8. Grumpy

Reps yesterday ,parra ,penrith , ,manly ,roosters, canberra ,illawarra (stg). Only nrl coach there i saw was BA and wasnt alone, peter gentles and peter sharp with him , thats special !!

  9. dessy

Harold Matthews cup team were without 5 starting players as well yesterday, few injuries unfortunately but the players who came in filled the spots and done a great job, score could of been anything if all the matts team we available great effort boys and congratualations on the Sg ball team winning as well

  10. Grumpy

3 sgball players could definetly make 20s debut before seasons end ,josh curran ,ethan parry( hes nrl material ) and maybe scott dressler unless they dont want to rush him ,of course theres others but these 3 we need to keep

    1. Anonymous

Curran is still only turning 17 this year, as he’s eligible for ball next year not sure if we’ll rush him along. Same with Parry. Dresler is already training with the 20’s so the plan is to have him moving up this year. All 3 are top players and all are a good size.

As for Trav he sprained his ankle a few weeks ago and has been tentative since. Atm he’s only 16 but will be turning 17 this year.

  11. Grumpy

I will add to that no 25 off bench valu (could be a smokey) some of the others ive seen mentioned throughout season were a bit soft and travis turnbull bit short on ticker and involvement ,hides good in defence though ! Long way to go for him
