Team List Tuesday – Funa’s Debut, Take Two Edition

NRL Team List

Round 25 vs The Dolphins, Friday 8:00PM, Suncorp Stadium

While the Parramatta Eels did claim a dramatic last minute victory over the North Queensland Cowboys in their 32-30 (which was eerily close to their previous 33-30 victory this season), a late head injury assessment kerfuffle involving Apa Twidle cost Jezaiah Funa the opportunity to debut as planned in Round 24. Hopefully, there are no such disruptions this time around as the Eels travel to Brisbane to face the red-hot Dolphins in Round 25.

Jason Ryles has largely kept the same side together this week – although Jack De Belin has been recalled from the NSW Cup to start at lock forward over Saxon Pryke. Pryke reverts to the interchange bench, somewhat disappointingly, where he joins the same composite bench from last week sans Dylan Walker (wrist injury) who has made way for the De Belin/Pryke shuffle.

Harrison Edwards continues to win out over Ryley Smith as the dummy-half utility on the interchange although Smith is still present in the extended roster. Ryda Talagi makes an appearance in jersey #21 and could figure as a possible debutante in the coming weeks against the Sharks and Dragons.

Round 8 vs Cronulla Sharks, Sunday 6:15PM, Ocean Protect Stadium

Parramatta broke through for the maiden victory of the 2026 season as the burst out to a 24-point lead against the Bulldogs before staving off their opposition to prevail 30-18. The win wasn’t without cost though with Lindsay Tui picking up a sydesmosis injury to her ankle. Steve Georgallis has tweaked his back line as a result with Jasmin Morrissey sliding into the centres and Zali Fay coming onto the left wing.

Layne Morgan, who was rock solid on debut, holds her place as the bench utility and is joined by a duo of players returning from concussion protocols in Ryvvr-Lee Alo and Chloe Jackson. Kyliah Gray rounds out the 4-player rotation as part of a young but exciting bench configuration.

Cronulla are not enjoying this current season by any consideration given they languish down the bottom of the ladder with the Eels with a solitary win to their name. Whoever prevails on Sunday night will be taking a serious step away from the wooden spoon so there are more than just bragging rights up for grabs in Round 8.

NSW Cup Team List

Round 25 vs Canberra Raiders, Saturday 3:00PM, Seiffert Oval

Parramatta battled long and hard against the 2nd placed Bears on Sunday but ultimately went down 30-22 against their much higher seeded opposition. They now prepare to face the Raiders on Saturday with a number of changes for the Blue & Gold. Bailey Simonsson is finally back from a gruesome ankle dislocation and fracture sustained all the way back on Easter Monday. It is a massive triumph for the reliable outside back to return this season and hopefully sets up a big preseason for him. He has been named on the wing this week while Siamanu Leuluai also returns to the grade via the Flegg.

Jonah Pezet returns from the injury ward and bumps Lincoln Fletcher out of the team although that is offset by the promotion of Chris Petrus into the back row as the Eels rotate their young talent in and out of the grade. Max Tupou takes over at lock forward while a new look bench features Bruce Ward and Jordan Hill. That could all be subject to change mind you given the Cup play the day after the NRL so there could potentially be a couple of changes to the named side.
