The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

Sixties, Forty20 and Chris are live hot on the heels of Team List Tuesday as the Parramatta Eels venture into Darwin for the final time. This of course naturally begs the titular question – can the Eels win in Darwin and end on top at the end of the Top End?

The Tip Sheet covers all of the results from the weekend including a breakthrough victory for Jason Ryles and a stunning upset triumph for the Tarsha Gale.

We are one week into the crackdown – what do we all think? The boys look at the response from the officials and what else slipped through the cracks with the spotlight on high contact.

Some interesting things happening. Joash Papalii in the 6 again for the cup side I think is interesting.

Are we preparing him for a potential 14 debut at some point? Like an extra ball running play maker. He is now getting front line defensive reps in at cup. He looks too good for nsw cup. But we all know the defensive requirements of NRL make it a whole other beast. P.S how goods our nsw cup team looking? Man they play fast. I know we got a draw last week. But this looks like a wildly improved team + playing style compared to last years.

Some positives on nrl team: Eels hadn’t come back from 12 points down in a second half and won since Rd 1 in 2021.

We were notorious for soft finishes, and especially last year collapsing at 50-60 mins. This year we have won the first game of NRL without gutho playing since something like 2017. Ba also could not really get us wins in Guthos absence. This monkey off their backs (mentally) will help some Snr players grow in confidence.

We obviously have a long way to go. But I think this team now with Moses in it will be stronger than last years side with Moses in it. I think that we have a long journey ahead, but we are one of the only teams who look to be improving each week. We have improved basically for 3 weeks in a row. I think we will start to snag a few more wins with Walker here. Our attack desperately needed what he brings.

Muz, when did Gutherson do his knee. Did we lose every game when he was out? I don’t think so! He was out twice with knee injuries. So when was the last time he did his knee. I can’t recall but I think it was after 2017.

He missed the last (approx) 5 regular season games of 2017 and the Eels won the last round game against (Souths from memory) and that would be the last time we won with Gutherson not in the line up – before Rd 5 2025.

Amazing ba sports. If this is correct, we didn’t win a game without gutho for 5+ years?

What a crazy statistic if we are correct.

Huge relief and belief builder hopefully for some of our players who were in desperate need of some confidence.

Zero I’m having trouble finding it.

But from what I can remember as ba sports mentioned it was 2017.

If you can find info showing otherwise share if for us, interested to see. From what I can find and have heard it was possibly late 2017.

Love your take mate. Agree things are looking up. We have some exciting players coming through and it will take time but its exciting to see.

Great win last week and showed some real grit to come back and snatch it at the death. We are making improvements week to week which is definately a positive. The long range soft try’s seem to be really drying up and fitness looks a lot better. Need to double down this week in Darwin we can not use our team doesn’t handle the heat excuse. We’ve played up there for several years now and will have abit of an advantage on how to prepare for this kind of game. We all agree we can’t wait for it to be over and it’s a terrible place to play footy but we have drawn a team this year who will definately not be suited to Darwin weather.

It was so kind of the NRL to have Parra play in the heat of the day to get use to Darwin. What a thoughtful mob. Five games in the heat of late summer. We should give the NRL a standing ovation. Great work NRL.

When he did it how many of us instant thought of a Mitch Moses type Jones Fracture??
      First thing I thought of.
Word is strong that he has definitely fractured it.
      Let’s wait and see.

We have not been able to field our full strength team once since our GF year. Club is cursed with injuries

It’s crazy how much of our salary cap we’ve played without in 2025 for all of our games
Moses – Yet to play a game
    Williams – missing 5 weeks
    Lomax – Missing 6 weeks
Matterson – Yet to play a game
Cartwright – Yet to play a game
Simmonson – Yet to play a game
Kelma – 1 game played due to poor form
Seven players who probably all should be playing in the first 17 if not for injury or poor going off there salaries. Lomax and Moses could potentially not play in an eels jersey together till after origin. To have 6 or 7 players unavailable round 1 is crazy

With regard to the Bears in Perth. This is an opportunity that Valandys can’t afford lose. As I have said before that I spent a lot of years living in Perth and WA more generally. I attended the very first game of the Western Reds along with a large group of diehard Rugby League fans.

The problem for Valandys in this instance is Kerry Stokes owns 7 media. He is funding the AFL and is not attracting the eye balls he needs to pay for his investment in AFL.

This is not me saying this. It is other commentators putting this out there. He does not want the NRL to enter the WA market and add to their already major audience.

The NRL is a better product for television sport than the AFL. Whilst there are some issues with NRL because there are not enough opportunities to slot in Ads but they are working around that.

Stokes also owns WA newspapers. During the recent WA elections they were doing stories about how the NRL were seeking a payment of $250 million.

In actual fact what the NRL were seeking was money for the upgrade of the old East Perth oval. This is a former AFL oval that has been upgraded, sort of, for use by the Western Force and the Perth Glory soccer team. This was money to be spent for all WA followers of these sports and hopefully NRL.

This made it very difficult for Cook in the last election which is why the talk of a Perth team went quiet. Perth want an NRL team, Cook is keen to get one and the NRL definitely needs a team in Perth to grow their own brand.

Perth is a big market currently not exploited.
