The Tip Sheet – 2023 Ep 70: Must Win Weekend For Flegg, NRLW & NRL

The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

Three teams enter this week for the Parramatta Eels in essentially ‘must-win’ scenarios. The Jersey Flegg, NRLW and NRL teams are all fighting to keep their seasons alive making for a massive preview podcast on The Tip Sheet.

Sixties and Forty20 begin with the Jersey Flegg as they do battle with the Dragons as part of a 3-way shootout for the final place inside the Top 5. The Eels secured a critical win against the Storm last week (the 3rd team in said shootout) but must backup this week in order for it to mean anything.

The NSW Cup features two more debutantes this week as Lachlan Blackburn and Noah Reed make the step up from the Flegg. The Cup are playing purely for pride at this point but player development is still a core component in the run to season’s end.

Bizarrely, the NRLW are playing their final home game at CommBank Stadium for season 2023 – despite having 2 more homes games scheduled later this year. It puts our girls in a huge quandary given their winless start. They simply must upset the Newcastle Knights on Sunday lest they go a long, long road trip without a win to their name.

Finally, the NRL are looking to bounce back from their worst stretch of the season. After getting thumped by the Storm, Brad Arthur has made sweeping changes to the side as he looks to reinvigorate a lifeless left edge. Dylan Brown and Ryan Matterson are chief among the new faces on that side of the field but late reports in the media indicate their could be a new face on the wing…

Looking forward to Arthur Miller-Stephen’s try celebration which will be the abdridged first act of a “Death of a Salesman.” In fact if he plays I’ll have him as anytime tryscorer.
