NSW Cup Team List

Round 14, 2:00PM Saturday 3rd June, Cessnock Sportsground

Talk about impressive victories! The Parramatta Eels completely ignored form guides and roster availability handicaps in Round 13 to dismantle the form team of the competition in the North Sydney Bears. The 26-8 victory was an almighty ambush with monster efforts from Zac Cini, Ky Rodwell and the young tyro Jontay-Junior Betham-Misa paving the way to the win with the entire backline also chiming in with healthy contributions.

Now they need to back it up against the struggling Knights with Newcastle owning just two wins to their name near the midway point of the season. They did exactly that back in Round 9 with a commanding 43-12 win against the Knights and with a wild logjam of teams clustered between 2nd to 7th on the ladder a win on Saturday keeps the Blue & Gold in the hunt to climb the ranks.

They will have to do it this week with a patchwork backline that features regular forwards Jirah Momoisea and Dan Keir in the centres. Momoisea actually did the job there last week but needs to produce again for the Eels in the difficult defensive assignment. Thankfully the forward pack looks real sharp for Round 14 with Brad Arthur looking to keep Ofahiki Ogden and Makahesi Makatoa running red hot by starting them in the NSW Cup. The are joined in the starting pack by Parramatta’s most recent rookie debutante in Luca Moretti while Matt Doorey and Jack Murchie make for a quality pair of edge forwards. It is a well rounded pack for certain.

Jersey Flegg Cup Team List

Round 14, 12:00PM Saturday 3rd June, Cessnock Sportsground

The Eels have let victory slip through their fingers twice in two weeks now. Following a tough loss to the Rabbitohs the week before where injuries wrought havoc on the team, the Melbourne Storm pipped Parramatta just about on the buzzer in their most recent game. Like their NRL brethren earlier this season, the silver lining in these narrow losses is that their points differential (currently a net zero) is avoiding getting tanked. With that said they will want to right the ship as soon as this week and get back to that winning feeling,

In order to hopefully do that they welcome back some legitimate reinforcements for Round 14. Jontay-Junior Betham-Misa re-joins the squad after an outstanding starting effort against the North Sydney Bears where he partners up with Noah Reed in the front row. The backline also receives a quality injection with Lachlan Blackburn returning for his first game of 2023. Richard Penisini slides out to the wing with Blackburn taking his place in the centres.

Newcastle dealt the Eels a hefty blow back in Round 9 when the two teams met with the Novocastrians claiming a 28-8 victory. Retribution for that loss and the chance to get back on track are up for grabs for our boys this week if they can put it all together.

14 Matt Arthur
15 Sam Tuivati

  1. Electric Analysis

Where is Dunster, Mitch Rein and Jayden Yates in NSW Cup team?

Should we expect Loizou to take Williams spot in Flegg because his defence with Paufusi and Komolaefe has been poor.

Yates looked to get a serious leg injury during last weeks game. Was seen on crutches after the game.

Gee that Flegg list looks good! There’s a lot of youth there but that’s our future. Also great to see Blackburn back; I thought he had signed elsewhere.

Sheesh our depth in young and exciting outside backs is rubbish. All we seem to do is get rubbish 23-28 years olds and chuck them in our nsw cup instead of developing exciting outside backs.

Cini should make FB his spot, he played really well there, and Asi was very good at 6, great kicking game, good at keeping his runners involved , Meni Luke is a livewire, hope they get good consistency from here on in, the new look spine is winning
