Team List Tuesday – Weekend At Kellyville Edition

NSW Cup Team List

The NSW Cup squad take centre stage this week and they get the bright lights of a Friday night game to shine under. After seeing off the Canberra Raiders in Round 12 they now take on a former affiliate of the lime green in the Mounties. Makahesi Makatoa and Oregon Kaufusi will turn out in the Cup this week after light duties in the NRL and both bookends with start the game.

The formidable reinforcement of the forward pack continues on the bench as Ofahiki Ogden makes his long awaited return and gives the team a legitimate strike forward on the interchange bench. Maika Sivo and Sean Russell continue their campaigns towards a potential NRL call up on the left and right wing respectively and their continued presence in the NSW Cup means that the Eels field their most competitive and well-rounded roster of the season this week.

Parramatta ground out an 18-12 victory over the Mounties when the two teams met back in Round 3. Obviously they will be looking to secure a second win this week but with the strength of their roster in Round 13 you would imagine they would like to make a serious statement with the result this week. Given that they sit outside the Top 4 due to points differential, they should try to capitalise on the luxury of a full-strength and narrow the F/A gap against the likes of the Newtown Jets and Canterbury Bulldogs.

As Sixties pointed out on The Tip Sheet recently, if you want to get out and attend a game at Kellyville Park this year it is strongly recommended you bring a camping chair or something similar. While the precinct will eventually become the crown jewel of the Parramatta Eels, currently spectator facilities are extremely bare bones.

The Parramatta Eels take on the Mounties at 7:00PM at Kellyville Park on Friday night.

Jersey Flegg Team List

After a gruelling set of months where injuries, suspensions and promotions left the Jersey Flegg extremely low on resources they arrived in Round 12 with something close to a full strength roster and goodness did they let the Canberra Raiders know about it. The 40-0 victory was emphatic in just about every regard and hopefully can serve as a beacon or rallying point for the team in the 2022 season.

Thie win did come at a cost with Turoa Williams hurt but the return of Charlie Guymer this week softens that blow somewhat. Nikau Wrathall replaces Taylor Mauala on the bench and the Parramatta Eels are otherwise unchanged as they look to siphon the energy out of the Thunderbolts in Round 13. Dantoray Lui and Kruz Niutili-Schmidt were both outstanding against the Raiders and if the young spine of the Eels can build again this week then they might just position themselves to make a run through the midway point of the season.

The Parramatta Eels take on the Victoria Thunderbolts at 1:30PM at Kellyville Park on Saturday afternoon.
