It was the Dylan Brown show in Canberra as the rising superstar put on an incredible performance in the nation’s capital in Round 12. A morning after edition of the review podcast sees Sixties and Forty20 wax lyrical about his heroics and the defensive gumption of the Eels in the second half.
However, another game means another controversial call and the boys have to rip into the carcass of another botched call surrounding Jordan Rapana and Tom Opacic. After venting their spleens the Round 12 review is capped off with the traditional 3, 2, 1 votes as Mitchell Moses and Bailey Simonsson clean up the pool after Dylan.
A massive win in the Jersey Flegg and a nail biter in the NSW Cup get their respective breakdowns before the show concludes with the celebration of Junior Paulo, Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Ryan Matterson early selection for the NSW Blues in Game 1 of State Of Origin.

As always a great listen. Ain’t it nice to go in a bye with the win? A change from the dark seasons when even the bye had a chance against Parra. And I don’t think nothing more can be said about Dylbags. Sensational.
The match before the bye always feels like a four point game. Most of the travelling is now out of the way. Apart from a trip to Brisbane, the rest of the regular rounds are now in Sydney.
yes, and I’m looking forward to getting to more games on the run home. Hoping the post origin run home builds towards a top four finish.
Also while there are a couple of quality teams involved 6 of the last 8 games are at Commbank
Tks men. Opacic/Rapana – the ref actually called 6 Again to restart the tackle count for us.He made a call on the basis of what he saw. The over-rule came through his earpiece which I assumed was the bunker. The bunker was therefore never going to approve our challenge and admit they were wrong. Is the bunker there to stop play?Other than high shots/foul play, isnt it’s role all about reviewing when play has stopped?
Agree on Tapine, he is playing at a high level. Wighton’s kicking game was also v good.Other than line breaks, the stats on this game say Canberra should have won, and the fact that their tries came from mishaps, all suggest we aimed up really well to overcome a 19-9 combined error/penalty count.
Cheers BDon. That refereeing error was a shocker. Completely unacceptable.
As for the effort, plenty of supporters rate that as our best of the year. Forty’s call equating it to the Riff game is justified. The Raiders would have beaten nearly every other team yesterday.
After Dylan pushed off J Papali’i Papa went off with concussion. Did Dylan hit him that hard or was it embarrassment.
To keep Mitch and Dylan, clearly the Eels are going to have to spend around $1 mil for each.
Next level down is Matterson and Penisini. Both are locks. Beyond that we need to be looking from within for the rest.
Is Ryan Carr moving into Kidwell’s position? If so would Woolford fill the Carr vacancy?
John, Carr has literally been handling an assistant coach role anyway during training sessions. I see that as an easy transition to take over from Kiddie so that’s my tip. As for the reggies, I’m not sure about the plans.
Great stuff lads.
Dylan is looking like he’s on a trajectory to be the best player in the comp in the coming years, it’s great to see. Just to think how much criticism was being thrown his way 12 months ago. Some of which was understandable, but with the way he defends, you can see he is a natural footy player.
Simmonson coming along nicely too, I think you lads got a bit excited though – he’s still finding his feet, but was very good this game.
I’m a massive Gutho fan, but geez he’s having a pretty ordinary season. I wonder what’s going wrong – is he banged up or tired? He’s usually a hallmark of consistency, and while his defence remains pretty solid, other aspects of the game are just off. Hopefully he can get himself out of this funk.
Pretty much agree with your views here. The only thing I would say about Dylan is that last season he was probably acting his age.
Gutho appears to have an obsession with gaining 20 metre taps. He needs to let that go and concentrate on catching the ball.
We need him in best form if we are to win the GF.
The criticism of Dylan ended up over the top last year. You rightly point out his age, which is relevant.
Gutho is probably making more errors than we’ve seen before. He’s still coming up with critical plays so it probably doesn’t qualify as funk – yet.
Great listen as always guys, my only criticism is I’m not sure what you are watching when it comes to Sivo’s performance. The only thing he did of note was stroll over the line untouched, which really any half decent first grader should be able to do. I’m honestly happy with the line up we had against the raiders. Sivo to me seems lazy and complacent, not sure if he is out of gas or what, but just shows no urgency at all.
But either way keep up the good work and go Parra.
