Score Updates – NSW Cup Round 3 vs Mounties

Sixties is live from the rescheduled Round 3 clash in the NSW Cup as Kellyville Park once again plays emergency host for the Parramatta Eels and their opponents. Taking on the Blue & Gold today are the Mounties. The Eels will be looking to hit back from a narrow loss to the Newtown Jets last week but are missing quite a few troops due to injury and NRL duties.

There have been a handful of late changes with Wiremu Greig and Jayden Yates coming into the starting team. The bench is reshuffled as a result with Peter Taateo dropping back to the interchange. Kickoff is at 5:00PM, Sixties will bring you the action as the it happens!

First Half

It’s a bit wet here but bear with me!

Eels get a repeat set in the Mounties quarter. The ball shifts left late in the count and Carty puts Naiduki over out wide

Rankin converts

Eels 6 Mounties nil 4 gone

Carty swoops on a lost Mounties ball in their quarter and the Eels attack. They get 6 again from a played at kick and 5 tackles later Cini goes very close to scoring in the corner but ref appears to rule lost ball.

A late offload from Wiremu (Woody) and the ball goes through Hands and Carty before Olive brushes aside defenders in a 10 metre dash to the line. Converted by Rankin

Eels 12 Mounties 0 20 gone

Yates is playing dummy half with Hands at half. The Eels have a glut of possession via passes being knocked down. Perham gets held up over the line but in a shift to the right a kick from Hands finds Cini chasing through for the grounding.

Try converted by Rankin

Eels 18 Mounties nil 11 to go first half

What a set of defence!

Mounties get an intercept as Loizou can’t reel in a pas out wide and Cini runs down their centre in a 60 metre chase. Parra then holds on strong defending the line

Repeat possession for the Mounties via a six again and a penalty and they finally crack the Eels edge and score beside the posts.

Try converted

Eels 18 Mounties 6

Half time

We’re underway in the second half and there’s been a couple of errors from both teams in the opening minutes

Naiduki cleans up a kick on the Eels line but loses it in the collision. The Eels hold on after forcing an error. But the pressure is back on with Naiduki losing the ball in contact again.

Lots of second phase that the Eels hold out then force an error.

Oh no! The Eels again lose the ball in the quarter and this time they pay as the Mounties player picks it up and scores.

Converted

Eels 18 Mounties 12

15 gone

It is pissing down here and this game could hinge on an error. 11 minutes to go

Zac Cini take a bow. The Eels charge down a Mounties clearing kick and they regather and break clear. Cini gives chase and tackles the player 3 metres out. Mounties get another repeat set and the Eels hold them out

3 minutes to go

And that’s full time from a soggy Kellyville. I’m heading for some cover!

Eels 18 defeat Mounties 12

Taateo and Yates have played through the junior reps from Harold Matt’s,SG ball and Flegg, true juniors . Wellington Meads and Keir were signed from Raiders, Keir was Australian Schoolboy splayed.

    Yates playing nsw cup.. please.
    Terrible hooker.
Great work ethic but ordinary service, kicking game and no creativity..
Not a hooker in my opinion.
Yes a junior but I don’t think he played much junior footy in matt’s and ball.

Hang on EE. You are making some big calls there. How much of Jayden have you actually seen? He’s been a utility player and played dummy half, lock and in the halves. He was probably the best player in Flegg in 2021. He’s also just completed an NRL preseason where he focussed on dummy half.

Hi fella’s, how did Wirremu go? Carty sounds like he was in the thick of it. And Rodwell too, how’s he go? And Ofahiki is he warming up yet!

  4. Phil

Find it disappointing that the Eels website still hasn’t posted photos and player profile details for all NSW Cup players. There are a number of new players many fans know little of.

I can try to update as best I can Phil if you have any questions. If I can’t answer, I reckon that some of our friends of the Throw (I’m looking at you Hamish) could help out.
