The Tip Sheet – 2021 Episode 26: Instant(ish) Reaction, Eels Complete Sweep Over Tigers

The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

It was a busy day for the boys on Sunday. Starting with a massive live pregame show at Pablos in Parramatta Leagues and culminating with a comprehensive dismantling of the Tigers. Fast forward 24 hours and Sixties and Forty20 are finally ready to breakdown all of the action from the Eels’ sweeping of the Tigers.

As always, the best players on field are identified and discussed but the conversation starts early with the impressive effort of Haze Dunster and the transformative form of Waqa Blake. Forty wraps a massive game from Nathan Brown before Joey Lussick gets love from both talking heads.

There is a massive discussion to be had about who replaces Maika Sivo for Round 15 following a looming 1 game suspension for the Fijian Flanker. Blake Ferguson is the most likely candidate to replace Sivo but both Sixties and Forty20 consider the possibility of a surprise NRL debutante.

After rolling through the NRL review the duo review the NSW Cup game where the Eels prevailed 28-26 and the Jersey Flegg which saw Parramatta run down by the Tigers in a 30-14 loss.

Thanks guys, a good listen as always.

Feel sorry for Neville Glover that such a stellar league career and post career achievements are overshadowed by that one incident. I’ve always thought that John Moran was at least equally culpable in that missed opportunity which certainly wasn’t the only error that day.

Yeah, the pass was a bit behind. As he said to us, he should still have caught it. His Eric Grothe story was funny!

Not just the pass. Moran was a big unit and I thought he could have got to the line.

Just had a chance to listen to the podcast. Well done and I always enjoy it.

Watching BA,s presser he did not sound happy. He said he was disappointed with 30 minutes of that game and believes there is work to be done.

My own view is at our best we are playing some good footy but it is the lapses in concentration and patience that is letting us down.

If you look at the two disallowed tries, both were correctly overruled, if the decision goes the other way with an ounce of luck and you would have been looking at a cricket score by halftime.

There is still enough time for BA to turn them into the team he wants them to be. The skill is there.

If you can think back to the first game that Waqa played for the Eels. I think against the Warriors.

There was a point in that game where Waqa was running down field drifting toward the sideline. I believe that he was trying to get Fergo to go inside for the offload.

Fergo did not read it and that was the beginning of their disfunctional relationship. Sadly it hasn’t improved much for whatever reason.

I like your thoughts on offering Penisini a start next week against the Dogs. He would not have had a lot of football last year so the improvement you spoke about in Cup is a credit to him and his coach

How quick is Sean Russell? He looks quick in the little I have seen him play. If Waqa is the quickest in the club where would Russell rate.

Cheers John. Russell has surprised me with his pace. During preseason he was opposed to Waqa in a game/drill. At one point in the game he was being chased by Waqa and couldn’t be caught. He’s shown that level of pace in a couple of long distance tries in NSW Cup.

I have just had a look at the crowds posted on nrl.com for our home games at Bankwest.

The total attendance for the season so far is 128,295. (Rider: the attendance for Rd 5 against the Dragons was not posted. Have put it in at 25,000. Fairly certain it was slightly more than that) Our Bankwest home average so far for the season is 21,365. This is similar to 2019 pre Covid.

We had a disappointing Thursday night crowd for the game against the Storm where we only attracted 10,416. If you discounted that crowd it lifts our weekend average to 23,556.

I think there would be many clubs happy for these figures.

It’s an excellent average John, and considering that Storm crowd was attending during a monsoon on a Thursday night during that stretch of weather that led to the floods, it was actually a very respectable crowd.
