First Half

The Eels strike first after capitalising on an error from the North Sydney fullback. A simple but well executed scrum move sees Dennis Maitaia score out wide.

Try scored by Dennis Maitaia. Conversion successful by Schneider.

Parra lead 6-0

The Eels build upon their lead as fullback John Paul Nohra slices through the sliding defence of the Bears in their red zone. Nicely angled run there.

Try scored by John Paul Nohra. Conversion successful by Schneider.

Eels lead 12-0

Three in a row now for the boys in Blue and Gold! John Paul Nohra links up with Wellington Seve who shows some very light feet to step his way over the line.

Try scored by Seve. Conversion successful from Schneider.

Parra lead 18-0

Great vision from the Eels now! Choose to run it from left to right on the last after seeing the Bears short down their left edge. Great hands puts Dennis Maitaia over for his second try of the day.

Try scored by Maitaia. Conversion unsuccessful from Schneider.

Parra lead 22-0

Half Time

Parramatta Eels 22 lead North Sydney Bears 0

William Kei was overdue and sure enough he is in after brushing past some tired defenders. Too easy.

Try scored by Kei. Conversion by King is successful.

Parra lead 34-0

Back-to-back strikes for the Eels now as Peter Tevaga I believe goes in on the back of a nice pass back inside from his winger Maitaia.

Try scored by Tevaga. Conversion is unsuccessful by King.

Parra lead 38-0

Quickfire double for Kei now as he burrows over from a cut out ball from his hooker.

Try scored by Kei. Conversion unsuccessful by Brown.

First Half

First points for the Bears in the SG Ball today. Parramatta fullback Johnny Fonua gets a little bit too cute on the kick return, looking to send John Afu through a gap in the kick chase with a crash ball but Afu grasses it and it is scooped up by Ayden Carling for the Bears who strolls under the posts.

Try scored by Carling. Conversion successful by Carling.

Bears lead 6-0

Parra waste no time in striking back! Ethan Parry busts through from our half and gets run down near the North Sydney red zone. Two penalties later and Elie ‘Abracadabra’ Elzakhem powers over from a tap restart. Great power and effort from Elzakhem there.

Try scored by Elzakhem. Conversion successful from Turnbull

Scores locked at 6-all

North Sydney reclaim their lead after Smuel McGregor forces his way through the goal defence of the Eels. McGregor was turned back inside by his dummy half and the Eels had slid too hard to their right.

Try scored by McGregor. Conversion successful by Carling.

Bears lead 12-6

Rapid fire strikes by the Bears now as the Eels are left reeling. Our right edge defence get sloppy late in the count and their #18 slices through and then finds Sean Sabuety in support to beat Fonua at the last line.

Try scored by Sabuety. Conversion successful by Carling.

Bears lead 18-6

Some controversy here for mine. The Eels have copped a string of rubbish calls that culminates with captain Josh Carr getting sin binned for holding down in a tackle on halfway. Not even holding down after a line break or even after a warning. Just like a bolt of lightning in a clear sky.

The Eels defend resolutely but in the final set with out Carr the five-eighth for the Bears breaks through from short range.

Try scored by Ayden Carling. Conversion successful by Carling.

Bears lead 24-6

Finally the Eels strike back as they pull themselves together and muster the effort for some up-tempo footy. Off of a half break by Fonua, Benny Valu steams through some retreating defenders to score.

Try scored by Valu. Conversion successful by Turnbull.

Parra trail 12-24

Here we go! Another break by Johnny Fonua and this time he has support as he gets the ball to Ethan Parry to beat the fullback. Game on!

Try scored by Parry. Conversion successful by Turnbull.

Parra trail 18-24

What a try! Valu puts Dresler through a gap before halfway and the pack pours through! Dresler finds Valu in support who is pulled up just short of the line but he gets the ball out to Kyle Cassle! Tremendous score by the boys in the engine room.

Try scored by Cassel. Conversion successful by Turnbull.

We are all locked up at 24-all

Huge break by the try scorer Kyle Cassel now and Turnbull nails the field goal after it!

Field goal attempt successful by Turnbull.

Parra lead 25-24

Oh my, some of the most one eyed reffing you will see going on today. Parra are done for infringing inside the 10m and the Bears will get a shot at the goals.

Penalty conversion attempt successful by Carling.

Bears lead 26-25

And that will do us. The Bears played with plenty of heart but that was a disgraceful effort by the referee. Credit to both teams for an extremely entertaining game!

Great work40/20. Matts seem to be going ok. Do we know if they are still down troops from the Balmain match?
Number 9 for norths in ball has a strong name….we seem to be struggling in ball. Is cause of the young team?

SG Ball was decimated today. Injury list was as follows:

      Sean Keppie – Wrist/Hand (~3 weeks)
Jesse Cronin – Concussion (~4 weeks)
      Junior Fainga – Shoulder (season)
      Tui Afualo – ? (?)
      Haze Dunster – ? (?)
      Alex Seve – ? (?)
      Filia Utoikamanu – ? (?)

To put on the critical goggles, our boys started very slowly. Their first half was dreadful after the error from Fonua but they rallied tremendously in the second half. I can’t overstate how bad the referee was as well!

Isn’t it a shame that some refs can control the game by a penalty….? I noticed lots more penalties in these junior games over the years now. V sad.

The bias displayed here sounds on par with, or even worse than, the effort of Monday nites referee towards the Storm.
It does make it hard to win when those decisions rain against you. Thanks for the description Forty!
