The Tip Sheet – 2026 Ep 42: Rd 8 Preview vs Manly Sea Eagles

Chris Ricketts is back! The Tip Sheet, like the Eels, gets some reinforcements for ANZAC Round as the boys preview a trio of games against the Manly Sea Eagles.

The boys break down Flegg, Cup and NRL match ups against the Eels’ fraternal twin in the Sea Eagles. The returns of Sean Russell and Kelma Tuilagi cause a trickle down impact of playing talent for Parramatta. In the Flegg there is also a significant injection of SG Ball talent as Cameron Bamblett, Ryda Talagi, Chris Petrus and presumably Jackson Koina bolster the side. How big of an influence can they have for the Eels?

Kieran Foran has the Sea Eagles flying on a 3-game winning streak while Jason Ryles snapped the Eels out of a funk with their stunning upset of the Bulldogs in Round 7. So who prevails on Sunday?

A win against manly and we are really back on track. Tough game but if we play with as much commitment as last week and Moses turns it on we probably win.

Watching the raiders game and Timoko’s defence frailty is on show. He is no answer for us – he is a liability on defensive and slow. Basically another penisini issue. I think xerri is a better option. Tago also has defensive woes.

Xerri would be the pick of that bunch, he’s the only one I’d pay overs for. We won’t be the only club chasing him.

Penisini is a much better player than Timoko. Timoko basically does one thing well and that’s pull his hips through contact as a ball runner. He can’t tackle or read in defence at all and he runs with blinkers on.

Penisini seems to cop a bad wrap from fans but he’s a match winner. When he’s on it goes a long way to the eels winning games of footy.

Great show as always gents, thank you. Happy to see Chris again.
Go Parra! Come on, let’s make it two in a row.

Can the eels “turn up” two weeks in a row?

Is Jnr too old to perform like that on a weekly basis?

Can Kelly and Penisini or Sean Russel have great games with very good yardage which gives us better field position PLUS takes a lot pressure off the forwards which allows them to have more energy in defence?

I’m of the view that if you see Paulo or our outside backs have a good first 20-30 minutes we might win this game.

If you see our outside backs not running hard like like week, or Paulo goes back into his shell, we would simply lose this game.

Brian Kelly had a good game VS dogs, so did Penisini. They both have bad handling errors but VERY strong ball runners.

I’ll stand by this. If we see Paulo and those outside backs running hard getting yardage in the first 30 mins we will win the game.

If we see an average performance from Paulo or low effort from those outside backs, manly will easily beat us. Simple as that.

I think Ryles has made our attack and systems too complex at times. Too sideways. We played DIRECT, ran hard, and strong contact last week. Basics executed. If we can somehow focus on that more. We will win.

If you play touch footy against manly and give them easy field position and don’t physically go after them, they will run rings around you. We must play HARD & DIRECT again like against the Dogs. No more sideways BS. Or manly will smash us.

I know Koula is a danger but I have stored visions of Turbo toying with us in past years, so he might be a big out, and it was attitude and focus that blunted Kikau and Preston last week, same again for Haumole O and the game is there to be won. Moses kicking and even-handed officiating will also count.

They still rely a lot on turbo, win more with him in obviously but If parramatta plays physical and doesn’t play touch we will win

Koula is like many manly players – good on the front foot / when easy field position is given

You are spot on attitude / focusing on defence against the key big players on opposite team like we did against the dogs is absolutely needed we can win if we do that again

Question is.. can we “turn up” two weeks in a row? Let’s hope
