Fans didn’t even get a solitary moment of respite to celebrate the return of Mitchell Moses as news broke today that Isaiah Iongi had sustained a fractured hand/wrist. The Tip Sheet try to find their feet in the wake of the brutal news as the Eels prepare to take on the Broncos. It wasn’t the only big news of the day with confirmation that Ryan Matterson will explore opportunities in England this year…although he could still be an Eel in 2026.
Api Koroisau and Alex Johnston have inked new deals to keep them at the Wests Tigers and South Sydney Rabbitohs respectively while Josh Papalii could still end up sticking around at Canberra. All this NRL news and more as Sixties and Forty20 go around the code in the news podcast.

I was hoping at some stage Joash gets a few FG games at fullback this season, but obviously wasn’t hoping any serious injuries to Iongi.. speedy recovery to the young man.
Joash has been training and playing a lot at 5/8 and probably hasn’t been catching as many bombs at training, and obviously less reps in the position getting some games in the halves.
Hopefully our kick pressure is solid and we don’t give Adam Reynolds too much time & space to put young Joash under a lot of pressure on his first game as a fullback in the NRL.
Luca Moretti and Sam Tuivaiti does give me some hope in regards to offering Brisbane up the middle for them to think about.
I feel like we’ve done a complete 180 on our playing style and we simply do not lay a platform anymore from our forwards – our spreads are often not effective because teams are not compressing inwards with the limited defensive pressure our forwards are putting them under when we work up the middle.
Hopefully Luca and big Sam T have good games in the middle and we can help create some more space for our outside men to get space & opportunities.
Really liked Hopgood at prop last week. Jnr is playing really well.
I still think it’s mainly errors costing us games. We generally put ourselves under so much pressure with errors.
Stop or limit errors and we might find ourselves in positions to compete in more games.
We have a lot of forwards who are current low to mid tier guys with potential. We need to have a real crack at an elite middle.
Tino
Hass
Barnett
Mariota from the raiders looks a serious player aswell as naufua Whyte from the roosters. Not sure on any of there contract statuses.
I’d be saying goodbye to kelma his a liability at the judiciary now if he does anything wrong and his gone for 3-4weeks.
Averillo inside of ado carr that is some serious speed to burn I could get around that
It’s about time Moses turned up, seriously this guy is the most frustrating in our top 30
Going forward I want to see a commitment to the club from Moses that justifies his place in the squad, he’s on $1.3 million a season and should retire from rep footy because clearly he can’t do both
Dylan is going. There is minimal value in playing him. This shows Ryles is tough enough to make the hard nosed calls. That is good for the future of the Eels.
Then why does he pick Russell? And Hawkins?
Why quit the plan to give Joash at 5/8 after 2 weeks?
Thanks fellas,
It is interesting to see Joash at FB. Given what has been stated by Ryles I would have expected someone else as the backup to Iongi now. Nevertheless, Ryles has shown he is willing to change things up so I look forward to seeing what the actual team is on the day and how it performs.
Question for all: Is APA Twidle worth considering at this stage? I have only seen him in one game during the trials at seasons beginning so have no handle on what he is really like at present. But people posting on here from time to time seem to be positive. And does his current contract even allow us to consider him anyway?
One other Twidle question for those that have greater Pasifika/Māori knowledge than me, how does Te Hurinui get to be Apa, is that a language custom or is it just a nickname? Any info to help improve my knowledge appreciated .
NRLW: agree with the comments on Chloe Jackson, she seems to have a dig every game and contributes well, especially given she is not very big.
Cheers and thanks again.
