When is Taylan de Silva signing??
Also is the under 20s national league happening???
Interesting Jack De Berlin has signed with the Eels!
We obviously lack middle forwards depth.
Our new playing style doesn’t require a huge powerful prop for the system to work.
Isn’t he around 33-34? It’s an old age. But he did miss a few years.
I can’t see it as a bad signing – 1 extra experienced middle added into our roster won’t help.
We are now relying on Paulo so much that if something happens to us we would struggle more than we would by losing almost any other player.
It shows you how limited there is out there available if Ryles is forced to swoop in on the dragons forward.
I’ve watched DeBelin in a few Dragons games and always thought he still maintains good workrate and tackle efficiency, strives for quick play the balls. Polished forward with good durability. 34 but 3 years inactive, we’ll likely get value tucked in with our younger brigade.
True Bdon he still looks fairly mobile and fit
Seems like the type of forward which Jason Ryles likes + probably a good deal
Our playing style and not relying on the middles for all the yardage will probably suit him
He isn’t your BA era prop prototype but as you mentioned his good work rate and good play the ball speed should suit as
Probably not too expensive either you would think mate
De Belin: excellent player with loads of experience, really good involvement and intensity in games, I am a fan. Still playing great footie
Yeah Muz, I was surprised he is 34.
But as said he had 3 years out which saved his body. He’s been Dragons best Forward and doesn’t miss many tackles or give awaysilly penalties. He holds the ball strong in contact. I think this signing is about his strong attitude and how he can help Junior develop the next generation.
Pete true mare 100% agreed
And we must consider we are ATM one injury to Jnr away from possibly being unable to look anything like we do now
Another experienced specialist middle who’s mobile and fit probably adds another layer of security to our middles stocks invade Jnr goes down
There’s something about St George – good players end up unhappy down there …
Don’t know if it’s flanno, the club, or the fact flanno had good depth coming through
100%!
Dare I say it but Dragons may well be going through their own nepo’ period. Unless you are the Cleary’s it doesn’t seem to work out very well. Whether it is merely perception or otherwise unless you win people will make that conclusion.
De Belin is 1yr with a club option on a cheap deal so we lose nothing.
True Pete 1 year with a club option, low fees / 350k P.a reportedly
And take a look at his stats very low errors, has less errors this whole year I think than Hopgood as had often in 1 single game
He has played every game this year and I think last year
In all honesty he looks better than saints other forwards, probably their best forward each week ??
Seems something is off down at St George – all their best players want to exit
Even their best young forward coming up went to the dog’s from memory not too long ago
Lomax, Benh hunt, De Berlin, that’s their best players – all of them have left or just about to 🤣
I truely can’t believe you guys are on board with signing JDB.
We have let go Gutho and RCG. We have released Joe O, Carty and told Matto look elsewhere. Clearing out old guys with large contracts… and we’re bringing in JDB? He will be 35 at the start of next year – and that is not to mention the guys morality. How can you seriously cheer for him. Whether he was guilty or not of what he was alleged to have done, he still cheated on his pregnant wife.. It’s hard enough cheering for Walker, but JDB – who is not playing that well. Not remotely close to well. He is with a club in the same position as us, trying to bring through talent and they are offloading him, so why? And then why would we sign him and take their junk.
We’ve sat through Watmough, we’ve sat thought Hodgson. Enough is enough.
This is a gut punch of a signing. I get that Ryles can’t rely on O’Neil to sign any player who there might be competition for – there appears to be no one else looking to sign JDB (for multiple reasons), but damn.
I was in on the Ryles signing with us.
I was a little less in on the Gutho release and the JAC signing.
I have been won back over watching the team improve
But this puts me back a long, long, long way on respecting Ryles.
I’ve supported the club since i was a primary aged school kid in the early 80’s. I stopped watching when Watmough signed. I didn’t watch a single game he played in an Eels jersey. Looks like i will be checking out again. May not be back.
Ba sports
We are living in a different reality
His the dragons best forward, second best player on their roster behind Gutho in fantasy points
His above any eels players in fantasy points
Jos defence stats are better than our two best forwards in Jnr &Williams
His error counts low – only 2 errors all 2025
His avg meters per game are similar to Jnrs
Dragons fans are pissed – much like NZ fans when Walker came to us
It’s a sign of how good he is for them
The other thing is he missed 3 seasons of NRL, and is still the second best player in a team placed above the eels
Not only this – the deal is TINY !!!
It’s around 300k ish which is under 50% of Joffa’s old contract
When 1/2 of Cartys contract who was not good enough to play first grade
It’s a ultra low risk deal, he offers similar value to Jnr & Williams
And costs the club pennies for the value
He will be on what some NSW cup players are on at the Eels, we desperately need middle forwards depth and not much is available
His the saints second or third best player – he could decline next season and still be easily worth the small contract he has signed
Basically any club would take him on a short term deal on that low of a contract
There’s minimal forwards available – not every signing needs to be a marquee player
We have only 1 experienced specialist middle in Jnr, this adds depth at the bare minimum
De Belin is miles better than Joffa, Matto, even RCG at this point in time
He’s still fast and agile, with a ultra high defence %, and has a big gas tank
He is better than Joffa and costs 50% of the price
He’s on a similar deal to Josh Ado-carr where he has a club option for the 2nd year which I love.
Was dragons best forward last year and is arguably still their best this year, will be a good addition to the bench to just toil away solid minutes in the middle whilst our young crop still develop into NRL athletes, I can see him working great with the Ryles brand of footy.
it’s a very good signing for middles depth particularly for the low cost and reliability his error counts low, defensively good, good motor, low risk, and probably dragons best forward still
Fans complaining are silly not every signing needs to be a 800k p.a marquee signing to be a good move on the chess board
This low cost signing means Jnr and Williams won’t be the only experienced middle forwards on the roster anymore
Jack can play lock too which adds depth there as well should Hopgood or Walker miss games
Can we get Sloan too? Another winger for depth won’t hurt either (lol)
360 said Parra were likely to sign TDS? I just hope it’s not. Another Bulldogs smoke screen. TDS is very close to Galvin and if they punt Mahoney they’ll need a 9…
Pete TDS one is interesting could be another bulldogs smoke screen. TDS wants a starting hooker role apparently. Maybe ryles offers him the change to fight it out with R smith.
I like the signing of De Belin as I think he will fit into what Ryles is trying to establish here. As for TDS, haven’t we been thru this with Galvin. The Dogs have already started subbing Reed and it’s not hard to see him being let go, enter TDS. Also I like what Smith brings to the team and how he has developed into the player he is this year.
Like Pete said above, TDS to the Dogs.
Lots of blokes analysing the de Belin signing from a football point of view. Grand, go for it.
But as a female fan… urgh 🙁
Understand and agree…
