The Tip Sheet – 2024 Ep 110: EGM Fizzles Out As Preseason Sparks Up

The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

After a long and very public build up, in the end the EGM amounted to nothing with the dissidents failing to meet the threshold for a quorum. The Tip Sheet breaks down exactly what transpired at Parramatta Leagues Club, how the voting splits ending up heavily favouring the incumbent directors and what happens now for the club after this expensive farce,

Sixties and Forty20 and joined by the returning Clint as they look at Josh Addo-Carr’s first week as an Eel, the end of the Darwin arrangement and much more from Parradise. How is Parra’s backline shaping up? Is there enough depth there? The club has released interviews with more of the coaching staff – what can be gleamed from them?

Terrell May is a Tiger and it continues an aggressive recruitment drive from the joint venture as the former Roosters join the likes of Luai, Turuva, Hunt, Skelton and Bird as new recruits. Where does this position the Tigers heading in 2025? Thanks fellas,

Interesting as always. Surprised about the EGM. I had read elsewhere about the lack of a quorum, but hadn’t seen or heard about the movers trying to get numbers at the last minute. A bit of a shambles – although I always worry that this sort of manoeuvre is a prelude to more shenanigans. Let’s hope not.

It has been good to watch the interviews with the new coaching staff which has provided a good overview of the people.

Agree that it is good to finally end the Darwin adventure and note that, finally, an opposition from a cold climate have been drawn to play. I’ve always complained that QLD teams were getting the run!

Also, very disappointed to see the Broncos Magic Round game against the Panthers is treated as an away game for Brisbane. A joke.

On Brisbane, the Old Boys have been relatively quiet since Madge took over. The last few years they have been all over the media pushing agendas for and against coaches. Have hardly heard peep here in Brissy since, other than Gordon Tallis childishly refusing an offer of having a coffee with Madge.

I guess it must be the natural pre season optimism, but your reporting has me feeling more confident about a better season in 2025.

Cheers, and keep up the good work. Appreciated here in Brisbane as always.

In a time of change amongst the football staff the last thing we needed was change and uncertainty in other aspects of the club, good to see even with the EGM not going ahead that majority of voters voted against unnecessary change.

I’ve been a massive fan of the Addo-Carr signing since it was rumoured but another thing he’ll add to this group is his sense of community and engagement with fans. From what I have seen of him in the past he’s very willing with his time with the fans, hopefully he’s able to encourage more players to at least acknowledge the fans post-game, something that has been lacking for a few years from some of the plating group.

Bring on a new look coaching staff, bring on a new look backline and bring on 2025 for the year of the Eels

I just watched Ryles interview and he said we have 1 spot left. We only calculated a top 30 of 26 players. Do you know if it’s because players got promoted or just signing are about to be announced.

Totally agree I am baffled by this comment, like 60s said we have 26 players , 4 spots left , have to have 28 signed by r1, players getting promoted from flegg???? Is there 2-3 announcements coming?? ,

Well said all around especially to Sixties for the information around the Eels foundation and his push to have the Eels legends be at one with the club.
