The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!
The preview podcast has another grade to cover this week as The Tip Sheet look at season launch of the NRLW. Sixties and Forty20 analyse how the Eels match up against the Broncos and how Steve Georgallis and his charges will play in 2024.
The HNWP and NSW Cup squads have tough match-ups this week with both teams looking to bounce back from consecutive losses. In the NRL, Parramatta are hosting the outright competition leaders in the Storm…who also welcome back Cameron Munster alongside several other players. It is Gutho’s 200th game as an Eel so can the Blue & Gold spring a massive upset?
Watch gutho play at 120% tomorrow night, with the media and social media circus all debating him being good enough to be the eels fullback for next year.
He might be busted and injured, but he still show’s more heart and passion than anybody else at our club.
Gutho is my new era Hindmarsh, an absolute work horse whose efforts should make all of us eels fans proud regardless of the score board.
He does this for us, he would do (and has done), anything for our club, his efforts are unmatched. He deserves all of our respect. 💛💙
I can’t make it out for his 200th but let’s keep the focus on our once in a decade great leader who’s been the heart & soul of our team for 6 years now and absolutely given his everything for us at the parra eels. Wish I could be there. Win or lose.
Well said Muz!
I had a listen. Appreciate the honesty and reality in relation to the Eels chances tomorrow night.
Also agreed with the assessment on Talagi and Arthur. Talagi is going to be a beast with a full offseason or two. The Eels can make excuses for losing Sanders with Moses and Brown (though given the get out clauses both have, it would have been prudent to retain him). But there is no excuse for losing Talagi. If he goes, so must those responsible for the negotiations.
Which leads into where you guys talked about needing to “look through the windscreen and not in the review mirror.”, I get it, you’re using an old saying. But there is no point simply looking ahead, if you are just going to repeat the same mistakes because you have not addressed the carnage that sits in the rearview mirror.
The Eels have not addressed anything other than role the dice that a new rookie coach will be the magic tonic that changes everything..
oh – as a side, you guys will have seen Moretti play more than me in lower grades, but i am not as high on him as you guys. What i have seen in first grade, he goes on the field, goes hard, and runs out of gas within 5 minutes. I get he is a project, but he needs a total change in his aerobic capacity, even if he is to be a bench player.
Cheers Brett. I think we also echoed your thoughts about learning from the mistakes and said the club couldn’t afford to keep repeating any errors. And as far as a new coach is concerned, it’s also been my take from the start that any appointment will be pointless without a roster shake up. There’s a Spotlight post addressing the specifics as I see them.
In regards to Boods, I think he will probably be a solid first grader but I don’t think he is going to be a major loss for the eels.
The modern day hooker needs 2 attributes in my opinion, either speed like Harry Grant that represents the speed of the game and catches marker defence out or size that has a major impact in defence.
Boods is not fast at all and will never have size.
He does however have great craft for a young player with his dummy half skills and how he can put forwards onto the front foot.
He will be interesting to watch but I am also keen to watch Riley Smith develop.
My dream would be for Ryles to bring Wishart from the storm and make him a hooker, I think he would be brilliant as a hooker.
I’m generally an optimist but even I can’t see any hope for Parra in this game. Even a 40+ start may not be enough.
Gutho’s 200 is well deserved. He is talented but his desire and will is something else. That is how he has racked up the double ton. Parra would be a poorer club without him. May the footy gods smile on him tonight and for the rest of his career at Parra.
