The Tip Sheet – 2024 Ep 12: The Round Zero Survival Guide Feat. Ron

The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

The Tip Sheet preps for Round Zero with their American correspondent as Ron Greep joins the show to work through the ultimate Vegas Survival Guide.

Sixties, Forty20 and Ron discuss Ron’s plans for the Neon City and take a deep dive into the promotional work done by the NRL for the double header. Was it good enough? What avenues and opportunities did they miss? What did they nail?

The boys discuss the differences in pageantry between to the two contrasting sporting cultures and take a look at how the NRL might mix things up to better adjust to America. Ron then runs the boys through his takes on the four teams competing this weekend before giving his tips on who will shine and which teams will leave Vegas as winners.

Just on the point of difference between Rugby League and Rugby Union. This is not just a problem for the US market.
When I was working I travelled a lot within Australia.

While it is not as big a problem in Australia it is still a problem. Cultivating the game as the NRL would seem to be the obvious solution.

What the NRL is trying in Vegas is a huge undertaking. Mistakes will be made. The challenge will be to overcome those mistakes.

They will have five years to get it right. Listening to Ron you get the feel that there is an appetite for our combat sport. We will see what emerges over the next five years.

There is plenty of detractors out there. As you would expect.

John, that issue of people in other states referring to the NRL as rugby has definitely been a long term matter. As for the USA experiment, if it’s done right, it can be a case of why they can rather than why they can’t.
