The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

As the NRL and NRLW reaches its zenith in 2023 with the grand finals to be played this week, The Tip Sheet returns for another round as Sixties, Forty20 and Clint breakdown all the happenings in rugby league this week.
On the Parramatta front, the Eels announced the re-signings of Bryce Cartwright and Wiremu Greig to multi-year extensions. Young talent Apa Twidle likewise extended his stay at the club while Josh Hodgson officially retires and transitions into a coaching role for the Eels. At the other end of the spectrum, Dean Widders stands down as NRLW coach.
It is grand final week and Penrith are calling for Sydney to rally around them. The boys share some strong opinions on the call to arms after years of Penrith playing the role of heel or villain in the competition.
Adam Gee has won the right to hold the whistle on Sunday but officiating standards are the hot topic following a horror finals series across the board. What can be done? Do we need more technology or simply better standards?
Lastly, the boys give out their tips for the clashes between the Knights and Titans in the NRLW and the Panters and Broncos in the NRL.

I find it impossible to pick a Queensland side, Storm included, to win anything. Panthers by single figures.
Whoever we pick as the new NRLW coach. Please make sure that it is not the current Roosters NRLW coach. Has had the entire rugby league world to recruit from yet still has failed to make the last two GF’s
Those short forward passes, usually close to the line. There is no excuse for any official missing them. You can see by the way the ball comes out of the hands by a player running to the try line that it has to be forward.
No video technology required to capture the flight of the ball. The player is running forward throws the ball forward with no attempt to turn the upper body to throw backwards.
More important than a new NRLW coach is getting in place a NSW Cup team for the girls. Not having one just completely hamstrung our ability to recruit and retain. I have asked numerous times why we don’t have a NSW Cup team, no one will answer.
Well made point Brett
Brett, the Eels will be fielding a Harvey Norman Womens team in 2024.
Ok, that’s fine, but not having one, in fact never having one, cost us the likes of Tiana Penitani & Simone Taufa
That’s the concerning thing John. These passes didn’t require technology to see they were forward.
I’ll have the grand final on but not sure how much interest I’ll show in it. Not just because of the teams participating but the general direction of the NRL, just not a fan of the game as much as I used to be. Still a massive Eels fan but if it weren’t for them I’d probably stop watching the NRL and just go to the occasional reserve grade game. I still believe Rugby League to be one of the best sports in the world but the vision of PVL and Abdo is just something I can’t get on board with.
Basically, your passion for the club has kept you involved Ham. I wonder how many others feel this way.
The team that the Roosters fielded in the NRLW without comment , stands out as a signal that things don’t sit right in the administration of the game. The Eels keep a fair number of people interested but the overall passion is diminished .
