The Tip Sheet – 2023 Ep 55: Origin 3 Madness Hits Eels, NRLW Trial, Big Names On The Market

The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

Origin 3 selections have left the Eels reeling after Clinton Gutherson and Reagan Campbell-Gillard were called upon alongside Mitchell Moses to save a series sweep in Sydney. The Tip Sheet jumps into the impact the dead rubber suddenly has on the Blue & Gold as they prepare to take on the high flying New Zealand Warriors.

Sixties, Forty20 and Clint have a robust discussion about the wildly inconsistent selection policies of the Blues including the shocking revelation that Will Penisini was never a consideration in 2023.

The team list – sans Gutherson, Moses and Reagan Campbell-Gillard – is in and there is a surprise selection on the wing. Isaac Lumelume has beat out Waqa Blake and Haze Dunster while Sean Russell takes over at fullback. Can this team beat the Warriors? The show takes a quick look at the match up on Saturday with news breaking that Shaun Johnson could be out for the opposition.

The NRLW trial against the Dragons, more Origin talk and the terrible, horrible, no Good, very bad weekend for the Tigers and Bulldogs are talking points. Last up is chatter about a trio of sudden free agents in Zac Lomax, David Fifita and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui.

The Blues selection policies are indeed perplexing. It reeks of panic. As fine of a player as he is, Cody Walker is not the future of the Blues. I do feel for Hynes and pairing him with Moses would be a potentially dangerous combination.

Re the bye, obviously the NRL did not think the Eels would not have any Origin reps.

The next man up is really going to be tested. But I’m strangely not too concerned. Maybe because I’m not expecting a win but I most certainly hoping for one.

Enjoyed the session, tks.Warriors are without Niukore and Curran, two of their best in 2023. And maybe Johnson. Our bench looks strong, while the Warriors got towelled last week (Souths completed thru the roof and made only 3 errors), their forwards roll upfield well so our bench will matter.
While ever the 10 mtrs is optional, Qld will be hard to beat, plus they ‘keep their feet moving’, the new call for scrambling, backing up, kick chase, grabbing the loose ball…everything.
