Jersey Flegg Team List

Round 18, Saturday 1st July, Ringrose Park

The lone team in action this week for the Parramatta Eels is the Jersey Flegg. Fresh off their breakthrough win against the Cronulla Sharks, Craig Brennan and his young men will be looking to get a steak streak cooking when they host the Wests Tigers. An all SG-Ball spine will lead the team once again as Apa Twidle, Joshua Lynn, Ethan Sanders and Matthew Arthur fill out the play-making roles while Nick Lenaz captains the team from lock.

Araz Nanva holds his spot in the team after making his club debut against the Sharks. Nanva, a Rouse Hill Rhino, joined the Eels recently by way of the St George Dragons where he played centre and fullback. Outside of the boost provided by the addition of Araz the Eels enjoy some continuity in their roster with the backline and forward pack shaping up nicely. With the NSW Cup on the bye there is also the possibility that players like Jontay-Junior Betham-Misa, Jock Brazel and Arthur Miller-Stephen could be available for selection.

The home game roulette has our boys playing at one of their old stomping grounds in Wentworthville this week. The fabled Ringrose Park and its legendary chip rolls will be the backdrop for the Jersey Flegg action on Saturday.

I spoke to him at the Junior Reps Presentation night. It was a significant absence, but he will be returning this season. I don’t like to provide specifics as I don’t work for the club nor do I have his permission to relay what he said. What I will say is that at his age there’s no need to rush any injury.

We actually discuss this in some detail in the podcast. Do they cast away some hopes of finals football in Flegg for that? Is he benefiting from playing Flegg or is he already above that grade? Do they see a benefit in elevating him into a team that’s copping some hidings? Would his elevation help the form of the reggies team? Maybe it’s a decision made around current contract discussions?
