The Tip Sheet – 2022 Ep 31: Eels Tackle Rising Raiders Before The Bye

The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

A road trip to the nation’s capital is all that is left for the Parramatta Eels ahead of their bye. It won’t be a simple road trip though given that the Canberra Raiders are riding a 3-game win streak and playing full of confidence. Sixties and Forty20 break down a huge game for the Blue & Gold in this week’s preview podcast but there is plenty else to talk about before that.

Spiro is back to chat about the good and bad from the victory over the Sea Eagles. From Parramatta’s slow start to the slew of controversial calls, the trio go into depth for it all. After missing out on Herbie Farnworth the Spiro raises the tip that the Eels have finally looked to have secured their next piece for 2023 with rumours connecting the club to rising backrower J’maine Hopgood.

The news is chock full of Origin talk this week and it starts with a swathe of Tarsha Gale Eels selected in representative squads. Throw in a trio of NRLW Eels earning call ups to the extended NSW team and there is plenty to celebrate. A quick game of ‘Which Is Better’ wraps up all the content before the breakdowns of Round 12.

The previews centre on the triple header at GIO Stadium as the Eels look to get revenge on the Green Machine in the Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup.

As always enjoy listening to the extended commentary. Never saw Chisel in their halcyon days but did see them in 2020. Not too shabby even for old blokes. But Hoodoo Gurus were the support and I’d realised forgotten how many great songs the Gurus had and how much I loved Mars Needs Guitars in high school.

As for the footy, I hope the Eels have not even entertained the thought of Lodge. I’ll spare you the rest of my opinions on him. But Hopgood is a good pickup. And with some of the player unrest at other clubs, a few handy buys may present themselves.

First saw the Gurus a lifetime ago when I was at Uni. They had just changed their name from Le Hoodoo Gurus. Great band live.
I’m sure that Lodge isn’t being considered

Unbelievable! I was sitting in my car listening to the radio when I posted the comment above and I Want You Back just came on!

Go you Eels. I’m getting in my car from Newcastle heading down tonight under the guise of taking the kids to see the landmarks but really can’t wait to get to Bruce Stadium on Sunday
