The Tip Sheet – 2021 Ep. 56: Off-Season Happenings & The Canley Vale Kookas

The TIp Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

The Tip Sheet checks in during the off-season to see what has been doing for the Parramatta Eels. As it turns out, there is plenty to discuss so Forty20 and Sixties get right to it as they go over the wild spread of recruitment and retention news featuring head coach Brad Arthur, Mitch Rein and Will Smith and then dive into Reagan Campbell-Gillard’s bombshell announcement.

Michael Jennings has finally broken his silence after accepting a 3-year suspension from Sports Integrity Australia but he still maintains his innocence. The boys discuss what that means and where his legacy with the game and the Eels sits.

Finally the episode rounds out with a great big whack of junior footy discussion. Sixties and Forty20 look at the significant announcement about the temporary amalgamation of the Parramatta and Canterbury districts in the post-COVID era. The show finishes with a terrific chat with the wonderful Natalie Fa’Auiga E’e of the Canley Vale Kookas. Natalie, the club secretary, proudly walks the boys through the history of the plucky club and explores how family is truly at the heart of everything they do.

I was on my daily walk around Tuggerah Lake this morning when I saw a couple walking toward me. The man had an Eels shirt on so I made a throw away comment along the line that Stay strong the window is still open for next season.

They stopped and we began talking and it was clear that he new his football.

He then identified himself as Greg Monaghan, chairman of the PRLC board. I found Greg and his partner very endearing and enthusiastic club supporters.

We talked about the interview Greg did on TCT and they asked me If I go on the site. When I told them my name it was clear that they read the site. This is testimony to the standard of the posts on the site.

After talking to Greg it gives me confidence that the leagues club and football club with the current board is in good hands. Like me he is very optimistic for the 2022 season and pleased that our squad will go into the new season with basically the same strong squad.

I’m glad that you shared this anecdote John. Greg wouldn’t mind me saying that he loves the Central Coast – we have spoken about this as it’s a favourite location of mine too.
When we were able to achieve constitutional change it made it possible for skilled and knowledgeable people such as Greg to become involved in leading our club. The directors of both the Leagues Club and football club are doing an outstanding job, especially considering what our economy has faced over the past two years.

Sixties I saw your tweet regarding Nathan Brown’s injury. I don’t believe this is the first time that they have covered up injuries.

I think that it is sensible policy. Sometimes it is unavoidable. However it makes no sense to highlight a target for the opposition.

I completely agree John. It’s also why we shouldn’t be too quick to judge performances. We don’t know the full story.
