The Tip Sheet – 2021 Episode 14: The Boys Get Roasted Feat. The NRL Roast

The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

The Tip Sheet takes a deep dive into the world of social media in the NRL this week. Dean from The NRL Roast, the hugely popular social media account, joins Sixties and Forty20 to talk about his meteoric rise in the age of new media.

Dean has a hugely insightful conversation with the boys about content creation in rugby league and the self-imposed rules and lines that he holds himself to. There are plenty of humorous moments as well as he shares some cracking stories about Tariq Sims and the Melbourne pair of Brandon Smith and Cameron Munster. It all makes for a great listen for anyone interested in some of the thought processes that go into The NRL Roast and TCT.

There are four games to preview this week – including one final – so the boys rip into it. The Harold Matthews kick things off as they host the Penrith Panthers at Blacktown for a place in the grand final. The Eels are coming off a bye and the boys take their time reviewing their journey to this current moment.

It will be an action packed Saturday for Forty20 and Sixties as they head from Blacktown to Wentworthville for the Jersey Flegg/NSW Cup double header against the South Sydney Rabbitohs. The focus falls on the NSW Cup in particular with Ryan Matterson making his return from a concussion in reserve grade.

The show closes with the NRL preview as the Eels travel to the Top End to host the Brisbane Broncos. Brisbane showed plenty of resilience and character in a narrow loss to the Penrith Panthers last week and the discussion for the Round 7 clash centres on how the Eels will handle a similar effort from the QLD franchise. This games also marks the first return fixture for the Eels in 2021 after meeting the Broncos in Round 1 already this year.
