Post Game Grades – Round 17 vs Bulldogs

Parramatta_Eels_logo.svg  Parramatta Eels  13

 Canterbury Bulldogs  12

The Good:
Well the first half was pretty good. For the most part we competed, particularly in defence, and seemed to be handling the Bulldogs pretty comfortably in that first 40.

We also scored a Mitchell Moses field goal in golden point, somehow finding a way to hold on for a win.

I actually think the biggest plus out of tonight is the fact that our boys will be beating themselves up for a very subpar second half (yes, there were a variety of factors in play), and yet we still get to take home the 2 competition points. There is very little for our boys to be complacent about after tonight, and that’s brilliant preparation heading into a game against an undermanned, but nonetheless undoubtedly still a very potent Melbourne Storm team.

The Bad:
1. The part of Kenny Edwards’ brain that makes decisions.

2. The part of Henry Perenara’s brain that refuses to make decisions.

The second 40 minutes was like a car crash, but I dare say we weren’t really at fault. Still, it was another game and another win.

X-Factor:
For the second week in the row, I’m whinging about the refereeing performance in a post game write up, and I actually hate doing that.

Henry Perenara (and Ashley Klein while I’m at it) is an absolutely woeful referee. It seems to me that he is afraid of making the wrong decision, and so instead prefers to make no decision at all. If true, that is a terrible mindset for an NRL referee, and it showed in his performance. I’ll go ahead and say it, I don’t think that the golden point penalty was the correct call, but in many ways in made up for the ridiculous policing of the ruck, and general unwillingness to blow the whistle throughout the rest of the contest.

The MVP:

This could so easily go to Nathan Brown for the millionth time this season, he’s been an unbelievably good buy for us (and probably even had his best game in the Blue and Gold tonight). But I also loved Mitch Moses’ game, and he deserves his first MVP for his best game in the Blue and Gold yet. Stellar defence, great vision and a terrific decision to take the shot at goal on an early tackle. Nathan Brown was ridiculous, but without Moses we don’t win tonight, and that pushed him over the edge for mine.

As an aside, we’re 4 from 6 since he swapped jerseys. If he can keep defending like he did tonight, you’d have to say it’s been a pretty astute purchase.

In other news, our halves pairing looks the goods right now. I now only wait until their individual running games to each come back into play.

The Starters

1- Clinton Gutherson

Fullback, Parramatta Eels

Sometimes a super hero has just a solid game. King Gutho was solid in defence (16 without a miss or ineffect), with good talk from the back. His running game (15 for 136m), particularly early in the count when we were trying to get off our line was invaluable. Also gave the last pass for Semi’s try, a moment which my colleague Chris Losco immediately alerted Jarryd Hayne about. He did all the good things tonight King Gutho, and his people continue to love him for it.

2- Semi Radradra

Left Wing, Parramatta Eels

I’m a big Semi fan, but compared to what you could normally expect from one of our star players, I actually thought he was kinda average tonight. I don’t remember the last time Semi played a full game and was kept under 100m (93 tonight from 13 carries), and to me at times he looked plain disinterested. Maybe I’m being harsh, and to his credit he made 15 important tackles, albeit with 1 miss, 1 ineffective and an error thrown in. He also scored our second four pointer, and led our team with 5 tackle busts (that’s huge), so it wasn’t a terrible showing by any standard. Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that by those same standards it wasn’t a stellar game from Semi, either.

3- Michael Jennings

Right Centre, Parramatta Eels

On the flip side, Jenko always seemed ready for a hit up. His stats aren’t great (11 for 64m), and at times he was manhandled by the Dogs’ pack, but his defensive presence with Mitch and Bev either side of him was a huge factor all night. The stats would definitely tell you Semi had a better game, but without the benefit of a replay I currently disagree. Feel free to try change my mind in the comments below.

4- Brad Takairangi

Left Centre, Parramatta Eels

All I really remember from Taka’s game tonight was him charging full speed at the Dogs’ defensive line from inside our own 20. I remember this on several occasions. That’s the sort of game I pay to see, and we don’t win tonight without such efforts.

5- Bevan French

Right Wing, Parramatta Eels

That first try was ridiculous. I believe my actual reaction was “What the hell was that?”

Bev had 7 runs for 85 metres, and had 2 linebreaks to boot. He also had another game filled with good decisions in defence, although the Dogs’ seemed to prefer to test him under the high ball (4 from 4 bombs caught), rather than run at him (2 tackles). This just in, but with plans like that, that Des guy might be losing his touch over at the Dogs.

6- Corey Norman

Five-Eighth, Parramatta Eels

The running game (8 for 82m) continues to reemerge, and his kicking game (453m from 12) was much needed, as were his 25 tackles (the one to bring down Kasiano late in the game in particular). I actually thought Corey was going to slap the ref at one point, which I probably would have supported. Please note The Cumberland Throw does not actually condone violence against referees.

We don’t condone violence against Henry Perenara, either.

7- Mitchell Moses

Halfback, Parramatta Eels

Syndes-Moses kicked for a massive 431 metres tonight from only 9 kicks, started the movement for Bevan’s freakish try, had 2 tackle breaks and kicked the winning field goal. Funnily enough I was most pleased by his work on the defensive side of the ball, missing only 2 and making 17. Nicely played, Mitchell.

Again, I know Eels fans come to The Cumberland Throw for all their questionable photoshopped player profile picture needs. You. Are. Welcome.

8- Daniel Alvaro

Prop, Parramatta Eels

The Really Good: 39 tackles with only 2 misses.

The Pretty Average: 8 runs for 55 metres.

9- Cameron King

Hooker, Parramatta Eels

I thought he was very, very good in his first game in the Blue and Gold. The Return of the King made 28 tackles, with only 1 ineffect (allowing an offload), and his service was outstanding. A couple more performances of a similar calibre and I suspect he’ll find a Blue and Gold contract offer coming his way. Very happy for a bloke who well deserved his shot tonight.

10- Tim Mannah (c)

Prop, Parramatta Eels

In pleasing news, Tim Mannah did not go off for a HIA tonight. He also made 27 tackles, but was largely ineffective in attack (9 for a relatively paltry 63m). I love the bloke, but something’s not right with Timmy.

11- Manu Ma’u

Back Row, Parramatta Eels

I heard it’s a relatively minor injury for Manu, so fingers crossed that’s the case. Started strong with 2 solid carries each over 10 metres. His running game would have been very handy in that second half.

12- Kenny Edwards

Back Row, Parramatta Eels

Nope.

13- Nathan Brown

Lock, Parramatta Eels

Just extend him now. Give him all the money.

Riddle me this – when was the last time an Eels forward made 200m? It’s a trick question – the answer is tonight, suckers.

Shut It Down had a huge 206m from an equally huge 25 carries. Nathan also thought it appropriate to top the freaking tackle count with 42 tackles. Oh, and while making those 42 tackles, he also didn’t miss any, either. Basically Nathan Brown is a Rugby League robot, and no one has managed to notice.

Extend the robot’s contract already. Give him all the money.

Interchange

14- David Gower

Interchange, Parramatta Eels

I was very impressed with Dr. Gower. A massive 8 runs for 79 metres (many of them very timely), and 23 tackles.

15- Tepai Moeroa

Interchange, Parramatta Eels

The stats don’t give bonus points for bone crunching tackles, but if they did Tepai would be laughing. A very impressive 41 tackles (only 1 less than Browny and Kenny’s game high 42), 103 runnings metres and a tackle break. Great to have him back, particularly after losing Manu so early in the piece.

16- Suaia Matagi

Interchange, Parramatta Eels

The Yo-Yo form of Matagi continues, pulling out his best game of the season since his Round 1 personal Battle of Brookvale at Lottoland. Matagi ran at the Dogs’ defence like his life depended on it, clawing his way to 105 metre haul from 11 carries.

In short, I thought he was brilliant tonight.

17- William Smith

Interchange, Parramatta Eels

His 25 tackles were timely, and he’s also really good looking.

I’ve always said I’ll take the two points however we can get them. It wasn’t pretty, but we got  the win in extra time.

Pop quiz – when was our last golden point win? Sandow vs Penrith? Feel free to look it up and let me know in the comments, I’m off to bed.

Go you Eels,

Mitch.

I missed the game but was there in spirit.
I’m glad you took the time to write this up Mitch, as an absent Parra fan it makes a world of difference.
Would love to know what Kenny did right (seems like it might have been defence) but his wrongs must have been atrocious.

    1. mitch Post author

I’m sure his highlights will feature prominently in the NRL’s game recap. To his credit his defence was great, and he played the full 85 minutes.

  2. Hamsammich

Hey miatch. At the game I didn’t think it was a penalty either but watching the tape at home, Lichaa had his hands all over the ball whilst Tep was on his back. It should have been a penalty regardless of him dropping the ball.

What made the penalty seem off was the fact that the dogs had gotten away with a lot worse for the 40 minutes prior.

    1. mitch Post author

I completely agree with your last sentence in particular. I think you could certainly make a case that it was a penalty, and obviously that’s how at least one of the refs saw it, but I still think it was more a case of a loose carry.

Again, probably highlights the issue with the rule more than anything else.

  3. Glenn

Our second half performance reminded me of NSW in game 2. What I couldn’t work out was why the constant one out hitups? Pass the ball for pete’s sake, as we were going absolutely nowhere.

Oh Tepai, as you’ve been coached all thru your junior years, tackle the bloke with the ball!

    1. mitch Post author

Agree, the one out hit outs were easy pickings, but you could imagine they were exhausted from all the defence. It’s a double edged sword, and the Dogs’ were bashing us.

Always lessons to be learnt, but as I continue to say, at least we somehow found a way to win.

  4. AB

Have to agree with your detailed review of Kenny’s performance. I wonder when that lightbulb moment will come to him? He’s too good a player to have the brain snaps that he does and puts the whole team under pressure.

    1. mitch Post author

Just a ridiculous second forty from him, and he did do some really great things (Played the full 85 minutes, and equal lead the team with 42 tackles).

Still, you’d hope he’ll learn a lesson soon enough, and at least we still managed to get the 2 points.

  5. Big Pete

I was at the game but still love to read your reviews. Player for me were Mitchell and Nathan and great effort from Clint and Bevan. Where was Tim tonight? He seemed stunned and slow in the first half.
Thanks for the late night update effort Mitch

  6. Clive

Great review mate but I think your being a bit generous to Tepai. That miss for the dogs last try was atrocious. He was still looking at the intended receiver of the dummy when Frawley was putting the ball down.

    1. mitch Post author

I didn’t write about it, but certainly noted it during the game. It certainly wasn’t a perfect game, and said miss could have for all intents and purposes knocked him down from an A-, but I think his big hits, great metres and general high work rate leave him at a B+ for mine.

But all good, we’re not going to agree on everything. I’m just glad we got the win.

  7. Chris

Mitch thanks for the mention in the Gutherson grade. It is my duty to point out to Jarryd when he stuffs up. I have been very busy this year.

    1. mitch Post author

I can see both sides of the coin re Kenny, because as I’ve said above (and on Twitter) he did some very good things.

Great defence, but in the context of him making similarly dumb plays in previous games, last night was particularly troubling for mine – hence the F.

  8. Chiefy

I agree the strip call was very harsh for the dogs, but – if you had a look at the first hit up off the kick off in extra time, we 100% deserved a penalty for matagi being held for an unbelievable amount of time – with hands visibly on the ball.

I also don’t agree with Edwards F, he just tries way too hard and was very good in cleaning up a few dogs breaks.

Also miatch Moses is going to prove to be a top notch buy. What did I say in your halves blog in the beginning of the season ‘ – sorry for the boasting aswell 😀

    1. mitch Post author

Yeah as above mate, I can see upgrading Kenny’s grade, but there’s some still calling for more blood.

He did stop the try in the first half, but the second half brain explosions (particularly in context of his prior games) was just not good enough for mine. Miles behind his team mates.

You’re right though, he sometimes just tries too hard.

      1. conway

Mitch, I think your first impressions are spot on here regarding Edwards….please don’t relent or feel any guilt at again calling Edwards out for his failure to see the big picture…..What is of real interest here is the response of BA, especially given that this is getting to be a too frequent aspect Edwards’ play ?
I had a mate who doesn’t support Parra say to me some weeks back,..'”I’ll tell you who is a real idiot (politeness stops me using exact term)..that dope Edwards””
Surely Kenny needs to own his total performances and show clear evidence of a personal effort to improve ….after all, he plays for the club we support,

  9. JonBoy

At the game last night I would have been first over the fence to slap Kenny when he knocked the ball down on the last tackle.

But I have just watched the replay and although it was a dumb thing to do, how many of us would be calling him a genius had he managed to pull off an intercept and run 70 metres to score under the black dot!

He was only 6 inches away from doing just that!

Still, added to the list of other mistakes hard to rate any higher than an F.

    1. mitch Post author

True, it would have been better, but it was still a low % play, particularly on the 5th tackle. He could have just waited & tackled him. I just think he needs to play more high %, low risk plays at the moment.

  10. John Eel

Kenny is one of my favourite players I love his personality adds colour to the team. But why did he run on the last tackle early in the second half when we had an overlap. Why did he attempt that intercept on the 5th tackle in the second half, an intercept he was never going to catch. He needs to learn impulse control right now he has none.

Worst of all though was the knock on. He has done the same thing many times this season, holding the ball out in front of him dummying to pass as he tracks across field and drops it cold.

On the penalty try the ball was sitting on the ground motionless all Moses had to do was put his hand on it, try. He did not have to catch it or carry it merely touch it with downward pressure. 100% a try that is why Montoya pushed him.

Penalty during extra time. The Eels were penalised early in the game for “Hand on Ball” in the ruck. Why would this be any different. Penalty decision was correct.

    1. mitch Post author

Well said. I agree with pretty much everything you’ve said here, but mostly I’m just glad we ended up with the win.

  11. John Eel

“But why did he run on the last tackle early in the second half when we had an overlap” should have read “first half”

  12. sixties

I always enjoy Mitch’s grades and the discussions they generate.
Last night I was 100% in agreement with his grade of Kenny. But just as Kenny plays far too emotional at times, I was emotional in my initial assessment.
Would we have been in a better position with his errors? – Yes
Would we have been in the contest without his defence? – Definitely not.
Does this balance his contribution? That’s a decision for the coach’s review.
Historically, I think we’ve always been poorer whenever Kenny has been absent.

    1. John Eel

Sixties I do not disagree with your assessment. His defence was first class last night and as you point out we would have been much poorer without it and he did play the full game without being replaced. However his errors are within his control to stop them. He shown in the past that he can cut the rubbish out of his game. Even last week as an example. But the errors are proving costly and as one of the experienced players he needs to develop more discipline.

Maybe I am emotionally still caught up in last nights win given how important the win was to our final 8 chances for 2017.

    2. mitch Post author

I agree with this, I don’t think the team actually benefits from Kenny playing in Wenty, particularly if we’re without Manu Ma’u.

      1. Colin Hussey

Mitch, that is the real conundrum in this issue regarding Kenny, on one side is the head explosions that could have cost us the game, then there is his defence and when he decides to run directly and hard at the opposition he punches the line and with quick play the ball gives good go ahead.

Its one thing to set up a try that gets converted earning 6 points, another in giving away 3-4 penalties that could mean 3 – 4 goals, &/or converted try as a result of each indiscretion.

    3. The rev aka Snedden

Sixtiesboy last night n the weekend b4 proves to me that bone head Edwards is not a starting 2nd rower his a benchy impact player at best. Go parra .

  13. Colin Hussey

Mitch, Its often the hardest thing to write honesty, and I think you have done that. That game last night along with the ref from over the ditch (wish he had fallen into it before the game) has him on par with the empires greatest exports, one could imagine Klein and the sentence he would get for robbery over the years.

The game was the most frustrating one this year for me, had I watched it on an old TV, it would be out on the street this morning ready for the garbo’s to pick it up. How can a team change tactics so dramatically in 2 halves? The only consistency was with the refs incompetence, along with Kenny Two heads performance as well. Why does a player with so many natural talents become so out of whack that it defies description.

I think our coach is far too nice with the team and in interviews, for me its time he really took the mid match time to point out some hard truths to the players as to what they are doing, more especially to put Two heads on notice in front of all there as to the need to concentrate. What a shame and terrible waste of a player who has so many natural talents but constantly makes plays as if he was playing without a brain.

Time also for the coach to rev up in his post match interviews about the incompetence of the referee, more especially would he have seen the amount of time that the dogs captain spent talking to the ref before heading into the sheds? I have never seen that happen in the past, at least to that extent, when the cameras finally came off the interchange the field was completely devoid of players. BA and the club needs to make the NRL know in no uncertain terms regarding the constant one sided refereeing in the matches, list the areas where the inconsistency is on show, and cop the ones that we got penalised for but bold red highlight the same indiscretions by the opposition.

No wonder crowds are down, not because of the game itself its the amateurs that control the outcome of the game.

    1. mitch Post author

I don’t think the post match presser is the environment for ripping into our players, and I suspect this week’s video session will be particularly honest.

The refs, too will probably get a phone call this week, although I couldn’t say what proves more effective, it or a $10,000 fine.

He might be saving his pennies for the finals series.

  14. Colin Hussey

Mitch, I didn’t refer to the post match interview regarding ripping into the players I said the half time talk to them.

Even BA has said in his post match interview “Maybe I need to rip into the boys a little bit more just before they go out after half time. They (the Bulldogs) just had some big bodies out there, carried hard and aggressive and their season was on the line and their want and desire was there. They carried hard, we didn’t get our bodies in front and they rolled us.”

The other aspect is that talk to Perenara by Tolman when heading for the sheds was the longest I have seen this season, in fact they were stationary and not talking while walking, it was not a good look in fact even Cam Smith would have proud of that discussion and the results that came from the 2nd half.

  15. Jim

Got to be happy with getting the 2 points but that second half was a disaster. ( Thanks Kenny Edwards ) Very happy the Eels could defend such a huge amount possession against them. Once again thanks Kenny Edwards.

  16. Chika.

Kenny few dumbys again but 45 tackles and quite a few that mattered , tell me who goes in for him and brings not more but as much ,

    1. Colin Hussey

O,E sadly I have to agree with you re Tim. I am still trying to work out if he’s carrying an injury, I know I have repeated this but he went down in a match a while back and was clutching the left side just below his shoulder, prior to that he had taken the ball up ok, that was the shoulder he did last year and put him out for a while in the 2nd half.

Sadly there is nothing worse than seeing a player who has done a lot for a team especially one who has been a one club loyal player slip down the ladder.

    2. Colin Hussey

Chika, no one can deny the work that Kenny does, but his antics that cost us in the other way stops him from being a more vital and key player in the team.

      1. John Eel

The question is not quantifying what he brings but what problems he causes. The cost of having him there at the moment he is high risk.

    3. mitch Post author

To be clear, I don’t think Kenny should be dropped. At all.

As I said above I can see both sides of the coin re Kenny, because as I’ve said above (and on Twitter) he did some very good things.

Great defence, but in the context of him making similarly dumb plays in previous games, last night was particularly troubling for mine – hence the F.

  17. Chika.

Generous on cameron king B_ at best more like a B for me ,to many times he was slow getting to his job but first game for long time and holds his spot but B+ not for me

    1. mitch Post author

Yeah I always thought his speed (particularly in our trial vs Panthers) has been slow. However, once he got there, I thought his service was really good

  18. Offside eel

1 thing for sure Mannah is no longer a 1st grade quality front rower i hope someone gives him the tap on the shoulder and he can leave with dignity

  19. Big Derek

So critical of Kenny, go back and review the game and see how he was trying to get some speed into the line and make up for the poor showing from the captain. His runs out of defence were probably the most ferocious , and when he dropped the ball .,it was a result of trying to get speed into the line and straighten up to try and create a half break

Ironically, he and Brown were the leaders of the pack last night, with some support from Matangi in terms of strong hit ups

For too critical of someone having to make up for some powderpuff efforts, ask, yourself who was on the field when we lost control of the ruck, had to bring Matangi back to stiffen it up. Kenny made mistakes but did so much more than most of the team

If you give Edwards an F , what on earth does Timmy get, is there a Z

    1. mitch Post author

I don’t actually disagree with anything you’ve said, but in the context of him making similarly dumb plays in previous games, Thursday night was particularly troubling for mine – hence the F.

  20. Shelley

Boy it was cold at the game but the 5 hour round trip from the Sth coast was worth it- love the Bulldogs game, would not miss it. I hope more fans come out, I know ANZ is not the best but our boys deserve more at the ground.

I agree somewhat with the grading of Kenny. Made some errors, the one going for the intercept was just stupid after defending all those sets and a bit selfish. But the other errors possibly a little unfair in persecuting him. Under fatigue people make mistakes. Kenny is not use to playing 80minutes. It takes time to get this type of match fitness. I think people are overlooking the tackles he is doing and I think it is no coincidence that moses has defended much better with Edwards inside him all game- of course Jennings and Moses himself is also a factor in this improvement. Kenny is always there quickly to help Moses and I really believe this is contributing to moses making better decisions as he knows he will not be stranded. That confidence in team mates is so important.
Agree he needs to get the stupid out of his game but it was not all bad.

Moses and his long kicking game-Norman and Moses as a combo has so much upside- brilliant. Looks like BA knew what we needed and waited to get it.

Love Brown and Bevan’s attitude- do what the team needs- a tough run or play out of position. Don’t sulk, whinge or turn away or leak stuff to the media just get on with it and play your best. We have so much potential and I think in the next couple of years we could really be a force.

We missed Vave and his go forward- In a couple of weeks Peni Terepo will help out with this as well. BA has got some tough choices to make, possibly Timmy’s position is in question, but I trust he knows best and will have the courage and foresight to make the right one.

    1. mitch Post author

Nailed it Shelley, although if Kenny drops the ball prior to the missed intercept, I think the case you make holds more weight.

Surely Kenny’s mindset running that ball (the running across field gets to me too) at that moment was “I owe my team here” and you’d doubly expect him to make sure he holds onto it.

Anyways, just compounded his earlier error. The tackles were great, and the F is probably indicative of a emotional reaction than a considered grading, but those errors were responsible for a huge shift in the match. I find big moments can sometimes make a grade, for good or bad.

      1. Colin Hussey

        Mitch,

I have to agree with your rating of Kenny, sure he did some good stuff, tackles were great but…….. & that’s where the problem is in the But. One can only ask what was going through his mind at the time of his dumb plays, and being honest I doubt if even Kenny could give an answer to that.

The charging out to the line at a vital point was a brainless play, the pass was too high for him to intercept, and at best all he could do was to touch it with the tips of his fingers, it simply was a dumb and impossible play. The run out would have been better trying to get to the player the ball was meant for and tackle him, cut the attack at that point.

His crab like runs also achieved nothing, runs 30 metres but losses ground,

The eels are at a critical part of the season, and every point is vital for us, the internal points for and against may play the biggest part of whether we play finals footy or once again look back and think what may have been. Had those plays been against a team like the Storm, and we face them next Saturday, what would the score have been?

We were fortunate to have been enough in the lead at half time to whether the dogs attack, but still had to rely on a extra time field goal to win, had the defence of the whole team not been as it was, another run down loss would have happened.

How many of the teams above us, could we have pulled off such a lucky win? I really hope the law is laid down to him this week, by the coach and team mates, no doubt they have already had their say, but unless the eels as a team can lift big time against every one of the opposition and play sensibly with purpose, and ensure that all the team members pull together and use their brains, and play to their abilities, we are lost for the year.

F, was the rating, and sadly no matter how good he was overall the small things, count against him as it made it harder on the others.

        1. Anonymous

Whats your solution col , whos a better replacement , every week your on here whingeing about something should be done about something and offering nothing , the staff are aware of all these things and working on fixing these situations but kenny is a good player and would get a start anywhere . Hes erratic at times admittedly but every player in the comp has blemishes in thier games , i would rather have a player whose commited and brings energy to the team than a docile drone , god weve had enough of thenover time , kenny is a bench player but injurys mean hes getting more time but i will tell you he dosent spend an instant of it not busting his arse for the team , anyway im afraid i class you as a whinger col and ive noticed you do same on the other site also , this site puts more energy into supporting the team and recognizing effort rather than concentrating on individual mistakes maybe you should do same

          1. Colin Hussey

I don’t have a solution, and what shelly has said, I have also agree with him, but to say I come here every week to whinge is very much over the top for mine. Seems also that shelley has taken up a vanguard to take on anyone that doesn’t agree with him and pumps the “what’s your solution? or similar.

The solution to me is simple and that is that the player in question, and I have stated very much that he wastes his own talents by his brain snaps, I’m not the only one who has said much the same, his cuddles is one that could end up causing grief, and nearly happened in a game not long ago as well.

Kenny Edwards is a great footballer that is an absolute certainty, but has issues that only he can control, no doubt the coaching staff and those around him love him on the paddock and adds so much when he controls the way he plays the game under the instructions he has from the coach.

The best example I can think of is for Ken Edwards is to watch a full replay of eels matches and see a player who is new to the side, and for me is the NRL buy of the year and this teams best player in Nathan Brown. Take in how he has changed from a player of promise at Souths but suffered brain explosions and gave away penalties and stints on the sideline for foul play, coming to the eels he has shown up to the promise he had and also done away with the other problem areas in his game.

So much so, that having him in the side is vital to the team and for winning, Kenny Edwards could do no worse than look to a much younger player to show him what is needed to be done in his attitude and game.

Go over to https://www.foxsports.com.au/ and look to the first headline article and read the whole story on Nathan Brown here is what it says in a key part of the article

So how much did the lock cost Parramatta? Private Ryan can reveal the Eels only had to pay $170,000 a season for his services.

To put into perspective, Brown’s opposition lock last week, David Klemmer, is on a reported $600,000 a season.

If that report is true, to put it in better perspective, what is Kenny Edwards contract amount? I am sure it would be above what Nathan Brown is on, and for that reason, the solution is for Kenny to look up to someone who does his job 100% of the time and in effort for much less than he gets I would imagine.

Colin I am sorry if you thought the above comment, re asking for a solution, belonged to me but it did not. I always put my name to any comment I make, not out of arrogance but simply because they are my thoughts as a fan and supporter.

I respect the right of anyone to disagree, my husband and I often disagree on all things Parra including Kenny’s game on Friday, because as fans we all have our own individual views and are entitled to them.

I know that I am certainly no expert in any way on footy, I just grew up with my grandad, dad and brothers watching lots of footy. I am purely a fan who like so many supports my team, sometimes even a little blindly.

Shelley, apologies if I got it wrong with you, rather than the person who had a dig at me as coming here every week and whinging so excuse me on that. Your post just before this one to me to Mitch, actually expresses almost the very same things that I have said regarding Kenny, so we are certainly on the same page.

At times I have called Kenny, Kenny two heads, as it seems to me that when he plays as he should his choices are great, the problem is that he seems to change so dramatically at times that tend to make one think is that the same person playing, or the old adage of Brain explosion meaning he’s doing the exact opposite of what he normally does. A Jekyl and Hyde scenario.

We all as supporters have different views in many areas but common in wanting to support our team and club, me for well over 50 years now.

Read shellys well thought comment and assesment re kenny col ,pretty much covers it for mine !!

At the end of the day Kenny is a professional footballer and has a responsibility to fix the problems within his control.

Impulse control is one of those things he has the power to fix. Fixing the little things is what seperates the Storm from the rest

I agree with everything said re Kenny as some errors are worse because of timing in the game then others. Kenny has to stop the silly errors in his game and if he does not then his position would have to be very seriously looked at.

While I was cursing him as much as anyone at the game and wanted him to be taken off the field, I simply think we have to see that his defense is really helpful, and a strong point, but again if he continues to run sideways and drops balls or make really poor offloads that puts team mates under pressure at really bad times in the game, then this will quickly outweigh any benefits from his defensive skills. I can understand why some fans are already at this point with Kenny, I simply have a little more faith in his ability, but he is testing it.

I think he has some choices to make about his discipline with the ball on the field, maybe he needs to watch again how he played in the Warriors game- hard and straight running that made a stack of metres with quick play the balls, because if he does not become more disciplined I think BA will make his choices for him.

I believe our team is much stronger with Kenny, but that is only true if he can relied upon to be disciplined. Like most fans I think that is a big IF at the moment.

My frustration is kenny should be a much more effective player. He has the ability, the performances and skills. That’s why I think people are harder on him than other players when they have a poor performance.

I will say something I haven’t said since 1986. We have the best kicking game in the comp. certainly over the last 4 -6 weeks with the addition of Moses.
