Live Blog – Jersey Flegg Cup Round 8, 2026: Eels vs Manly

Last week, the ladder leading Eels Jersey Flegg team lost their spot at the top of the table when they suffered a heavy loss to the Bulldogs.

With the NRL side decimated by players sitting in the casualty ward, the trickle down effect to the lower grades is more of a downpour than a trickle. The Eels Jersey Flegg side continues to lose players to NSW Cup elevations but that has simply presented the ideal circumstance to introduce the SG Ball graduates who have now completed their Junior Rep season.

This Jersey Flegg team are a revelation thus far in 2026. The side is filled with a collection of recruits who fight for each other, so it will be interesting to see what the SG Ball crew add to the mix.

The action comes to you from St Marys, with kick off at 5:30pm.

Match Updates

First Half

Eels kick off. Great defensive set first up. This means the kick is fielded by Alameddine about 35 out from his line and he makes great inroads before offloading to Walker who’s brought down about 30 out. Over to the forwards as the Eels drive into the red zone. Miller is hard to hold out and Koina now won’t be denied as he crashes over beside the posts.

Moujali converts

Eels 6 Manly nil after four minutes

Big carry from Talagi from the kick off. The Eels get inside Manly’s half for their kick and their defence keeps Manly pinned to inside their own half for the last tackle kick.

Good metres through the meat of the ruck for Parra and Moujali hoist the bomb from about 30 out but the Manly fullback takes it well and almost breaks away until Hudson slingshots him in a tackle. Manly error 35 out and it takes just two tackles to get in the red zone. Six again and second phase through a Miller offload looks to have created a chance but a pass from Bamblett to his runner goes down right on the line. Manly scrum.

Manly get to the kick which is taken by Taula. Short blind play down the right releases McMenemy on a sortie deep into Manly’s half. Wide left by an offload from Petrus goes down. Manly make an error in their red zone so the Eels get another shot. Petrus goes close on the left edge. The play lines up for a rampaging Miller to charge at the posts and he dispenses of the flimsy defence to plant the pill between the sticks.

Moujali converts

Eels 12 Manly nil after 15 minutes

Six again in the set after points as Parra shred the Manly defence to work back to the Sea Eagles quarter. Left to Leuluai and the centre dispenses of his opposite to add the Eels third try.

Conversion misses

Eels 16 Manly nil after 19 minutes

Not sure if I can keep up here. A huge charge from Talagi sets the tone for this set and the Eels go wide early. Koina receives the ball and Leigh chimes in to link with Leuluai and he delivers a pass in contact back to Leigh. Now he accelerates and passes back to  who finds Taula and he charges down the wing before throwing it inside for Leuluai to get his third handle and the try!!!

Moujali converts

Eels 22 Manly nil after 21 minutes

Manly kick off to the Eels left and I reckon Miller will have them wondering why. Koina splits them and finds Hudson in support but he stumbles ten out. Left now and the cut out comes to Taula who steps a defender then crashes over another to score.

Moujali converts

Eels 28 Manly nil after 24 minutes

Miller, Petrus and Bamblett make great inroads on the first three tackles. Right side shift but a Manly defender dislodged the ball from Leigh. They get to the Eels quarter and hoist a bomb on the last which Taula catches magnificently. Manly penalised for a strip.

Back to the red zone and Moujali splits them. The Sea Eagles defend desperately and the last tackle grubber from Parra goes dead for a seven tackle restart.

Manly work into Parra’s half and get expansive down their right but the ball comes free in contact. Eels scrum. Eels forward pass out of dummy half early in the set. Manly scrum 40 out.

Six again mid set. The visitors nearly crack Parra down their right then follow it up with a kick down the same edge which produces an ugly bounce and nearly a try as it avoids Taula. Line drop out. Eels hold for a set then there’s six again for an attempted trap and scrap. Manly’s half almost sets up a try down their left but the ball comes free. Hang on, Manly penalty. Eels again defend well but Manly earn another line drop out as they trap Leigh in goal. They kick to Alameddine’s wing and he takes a glorious catch then offloads in contact. It’s called forward!!! More defence incoming. The bomb comes toward Taula in the last and the Manly player looks to have knocked that forward but the ref rules it off Parra and the Sea  Eagles fall on it over the line for their first try.

Second Half

Sea Eagles kick off. Great metres by the forwards, then Bamblett goes on a light stepping run followed by a charge by Nunn into the red zone. Manly survive the kick then complete their set with a kick from their 30. Taula fields it and Parra are back to halfway in two tackles.Hudson goes for a dart and the ball is dislodged as he appeals to the deaf ears of the ref. Manly scrum 20 out.

They get to their kick high is again fielded by Taula. Parra also get to their kick which is drilled straight to the Manly winger who gets straight on the front foot. Manly make an error in the play the ball on the last. Eels ball 42 out. Massive post contact metres from Nunn takes play to the red zone but the ref rules incorrect play the ball. Manly scrum. It’s all getting a bit scrappy here.

Big driving tackle from McMenemy and Risati. Manly get their kick down to Alameddine this time and he brings the ball back strongly. Eels surge this set and Hudson is tackled in front of the posts five out on the fifth. Parra run it right but McMenemy is wrapped up close to the line.

Manly complete their set set as Parra again drove play back to the red zone for the last tackle kick which the Manly winger fumbles. Eels scrum ten out and the ball comes left to Moujali who does it all himself as he steps defenders and slams the ball down over the line

Conversion nailed

Eels 34 Manly 6 after 53 minutes

Leuluai splits them in the set after points. Parra get to the red zone for the last tackle kick but the Manly fullback gets his hands up high for the take. It’s now an awful set for Manly as Parra pole on the defensive pressure but fortune favours them on the last tackle ten out as the Eels get a hand to the pass.

Another terrific defensive set is unfolding until the ref awards six again and then a penalty. Manly find touch 20 out. They explore right and Bamblett has come off worse for wear in making a tackle. Left now and they throw a forward pass!

Eels scrum ten out from their line. Six again called and Moujali has again split them but he doesn’t find Miller in support and is tackled five out in front of the posts. The ref finds a fumble in the play the ball. Manly scrum.

They kick from their own side of halfway and it is a huge kick that rolls dead. Seven tackle set incoming. Bamblett sees an opportunity late in the set and kicks away from the fullback. He’s leading the chase as the ball rolls behind the posts but he’s had too many Weetbix today as the ball rolls dead.

Leigh fields Manly’s last tackle kick five out and the Eels roll over halfway. Short side play down the left as Bamblett splits them with pace and swerve and a desperate cover tackle brings him down half a metre out. Quick play the ball to Taula who feeds Petrus for the unstoppable charge to the line.

Angled Conversion is a cracker from Moujali

Eels 40 Manly 6 after 66 minutes

Eels penalty 40 out and touch found in the red zone. Big wide left side shift and Petrus overplays his hand with a flick pass that is ruled  forward.

Parra working the ball back from their red zone after Manly’s set and after getting close via Leuluai its again some scrappy play from Parra on the last as they get it all wrong with a short kick to the Manly fullback. Penalty to Manly follows. They get away a chip kick on the last which is fielded by Bamblett who then weaves his way into the clear only to be penalised by the ref for an obstruction. Geez Parra are giving up plenty of chances. Manly knock on down their left in the set that follows and Parra are back to owning the middle. That is until yet another error comes.

Manly scrum. They are struggling for metres and when they run it down their left on the last they throw a forward pass.

Thats more like it! Alameddine comes in to take an inside ball from Bamblett then he gets the offload back to Bamblett who accelerates past the fullback before finding Walker in support for the try beside the sticks. Terrific play!

Conversion successful!

Eels 46 Manly 6 after 77 minutes

Massive charge from Talagi! He comes in for a second charge two tackles later and gets the offload away. Walker puts in a last tackle grubber which forces the drop out. Manly kick out on the full. Eels ball in front of the posts. That’s clever play from Coinakis at dummy half as he feigns to pass left then finds McMenemy on an outside line for the try!

Conversion successful after the siren

Looking like a game where sixties thumbs are going to get a huge workout! Beating the clock at the moment!

  2. Leigh

They were brilliant; against a lower rated team but that was a great performance.

The younger blokes didn’t look out of place.

I think Bamlett tries a bit much on his own but he will be coached into being more of a team member over time.

Now on to the girl’s games.
