The Tip Sheet – 2025 Ep 120: The Christmas Eve Eve Stream

It wasn’t quite the night before Christmas but The Tip Sheet is live on the eve of Christmas Eve as Sixties and Forty20 yap about the latest happenings in the NRL. Sean Russell is rumoured to be the next recruit to join the Perth Bears and the boys look at what details have leaked out into the media and what is means for Sean and the Eels heading to 2026. Sixties brings the latest from the preseason and another slate of junior representative trials.

Who made Santa’s naughty list in the NRL? The Roosters and Storm, alongside some player agents copped breach notices from the NRL for a variety of reasons. The boys look at the naughty list and figure out who deserves the biggest lump of coal. Speaking of the Storm, Davvy Moale has joined the Melbourne franchise for a bridging year not unlike Jonah Pezet. Josh Hannay has poached Maweni Hiroti from the Sharks to the Titans in a nifty pick up for the Gold Coast club.

Exciting if the Adidas rumours are true, more then the jerseys but some of their casual team wear is elite by looking at the roosters range they just dropped.

Hopefully some good merch to come out of it if it eventuates.

Are they both going to the Roosters?

Sean Russell going too now. A couple of years ago I wouldn’t have cared but I thought this year under Ryles he showed he was worth hanging onto. Especially when you consider how young he is and how many games if first grade he has already played.

No doubt MON has some signings to take his place lined up. How we manage to make our roster weaker each year is just amazing. Go R&R, you are really earning your $. 😂

Our roster was stronger last year, we are stronger in ’26. Do you really think that JAC, Lomax, Williams, Walker, TDS, Samrami, Joash and Hawkins made us weaker.

Matto is in a contract year. If he makes nothing of himself this year, his funds will all dry up next year / no contract

The bloke (who I’ve remained patient with and said hardly anything about)….

Is clearly a selfish, self serving person in his job and basically clowned the eels by giving 50% efforts after he sealed a big long term contract

It’s a real shame because the man is apparently a decent guy towards others in the community and within the club

I’m not going to Blame BA here because some of his long term signings kept on showing up at 100% for us long after signing

But Matto has been a real disappointment – he apparently also didn’t buy into Ryles advice which was to trim himself down for the 2025 season to increase his speed and fitness levels for mobility

He stayed big and didn’t attempt to adjust his body, didn’t buy into Jason’s vision or advice regarding getting himself suited body composition wise for how Jason wanted the eels to play

The guy probably saw the last games of 2025 and realised Jason was right, and he knows what’s he’s talking about – the eels are headed in the right direction

Matto unfortunately apparently never playe injured and won’t even train if he’s sore or holding any niggles

Jnr Paulo in ryles own words, he plays while holding small injuries or pains, Paulo is 100% team first, Matto is not

Really sad that a eels Jnr turned out to be such a disappointment or even just a seemingly selfish individual when it comes to his job

It should be seen as being such a responsibility and achievement just to be on the Eels roster, and in return you give your best you’ve got in return to this club in exchange for them signing you

It’s unbelievable that this guys seemingly not returned the favour to our club, he’s definitely not given it his all, and it’s a shame because the man was a great player as his best

Let’s see if he listens to Ryles this year and actually trims himself down to be fitter & faster for 2026 like Paulo did where he adjusted his body composition to increase his fitness & game minutes

Ps sorry if this sounds harsh it’s not mean to be a personal attack

But something is clearly wrong here – Matto was not wanted by Ryles or even super league

I heard he also didn’t follow Jason’s advice about trimming himself down to increase his fitness before last season

He is on big money and to be fair has been a big disappointment to this club

Ryan at his best is a really good player, And I do wish him all of the best

I really hope Ryan finds his spark again, because it would be a real shame he Spends another year going to waste

Couldn’t be good for his mental health either – hopefully he can overcome his challenges at parra

Muz, clearly Matterson also had issues at Wests, and didn’t get along with Madge. That should have been a concern from the start. He also had issues at the Roosters and left the Eels initially as he saw himself as a 6. All red flags.

To offer him the deal he got was totally inept. He was shown up a few months later when he took a month off rather than play for his team mates.
