NRL Team List
Round 19, Sunday 4:05PM, CommBank Stadium
We have a LOT of moving parts this week starting from the NRL and presumably running all the way down to the Jersey Flegg Cup – pending the official team list in that grade. The Parramatta Eels are out of the bye and set to take on the Penrith Panthers in Round 19. State of Origin is a factor this week but more so for our opposition with the Eels having the solitary player backing up on Sunday in Zac Lomax.
Jason Ryles has made a number of changes for Sunday’s critical game although we do start with an unchanged back line…at least for now. Jordan Samrani has been named in the centres this week rather than being flexed to the interchange bench with Ryles posting Bailey Simonsson on the extended bench. Simonsson made a strong return for the Eels in an otherwise rough day for the NSW Cup on the weekend and could still be parachuted into right centre given Samrani’s genuine value on the bench.
Charlie Guymer has been given the nod to replace the suspended Kelma Tuilagi on the right edge. Tallyn Da Silva will make his debut as an Eel from the interchange rotation as Ryles looks to his new recruit to provide some spark alongside Dylan Walker. Sam Tuivaiti is a very welcome returnee after a long layoff and significantly bolsters Parramatta’s middle.
Ryles has made some tough calls including leaving Joash Papalii out of the top seventeen but there could still be changes ahead of Sunday. Of course, there is every chance the Eels play per this program but I wouldn’t be ruling out just a wee bit of roster chicanery.
Penrith have named all five of their Origin stars to the extended roster but their protocol for resting players seems to have changed this year given they have found themselves scrapping with the lower half of the ladder for positions. I would be counting on most, if not all, of those players to turn out on Sunday and the Eels should be preparing to face Penrith at full strength.

Round 2, Sunday 11:50AM, Go Media Stadium
The Eels clinched a pulsating victory against the Cronulla Sharks in Round 1 and now find themselves on the road again as they head across the ditch to take on the New Zealand Warriors. Steve Georgallis has made a minor tweak to his winning formula with Breana Eales returning to the squad after her extremely late withdrawal last week. Tess McWilliams slips back to the extended bench as a result but the rookie can hold her head high after a rock solid debut under pretty intense circumstances.
The extended roster is also boosted by the return of utility option Rosemarie Beckett while Jessica Kennedy features alongside her after a good showing in the Harvey Normans Women’s Premiership game against the Sharks.

Holy backline reinforcements Batman! The Eels feature essentially a completely overhauled back five with Jake Tago, Richard Penisini and Haze Dunster all returning from injury coupled with Joash Papalii dropping back to reserve grade. It has created a wicked logjam in the squad with Araz Nanva and Samuel Loizou shifting back to the interchange.
Now while it is possible that the Eels take 2 backs on the bench against the Panthers on Sunday, it does feel like we are treading pretty firmly into the realms of improbability. It seems like something will have to give and that could be Bailey Simonsson getting a start in the NRL causing a cascade of changes all the way down to the NSW Cup. It could also be changes native to this grade.

Round 2, Saturday 3:00PM, Ziems Park
The HNWP will not be joining their senior cohorts in New Zealand this week, instead they travel to Wollongong to face the Steelers on Saturday. Parramatta were pipped by the Sharks in Round 1 but with the amount of young prospects they are fielding in this squad, some growing pains were to be expected. Despite the loss, the girls acquitted themselves well and get the chance to nab their opening win of the season this weekend.
Tess McWilliams returns to this grade after her late call up to the NRLW last week as the most notable roster change between games.

Interesting to see Martyn has signed with Bears NSW Cup side. Probably the best for him. Couldn’t crack into the team and then when their was opportunities he got injured.
I assume Will Latu has been injured again .
Matto still has a spine injury too?. Ever since the rumours about Matto leaving his Instagram has been very active lol.
In relation to Ryan Matterson , what shits me is that he’s nowhere to be seen on the team list or injury list but still part of our top 30 as is Shaun Lane , I get it, I only see Moses and moretti as injury , as paying Parra supporters surely we r entitled to know what’s going on our depth is average atm, taking us for granted lack of communications is a massive issue?
Rumours are that Ryles is considering playing Papalii as 5/8 next year but is not playing in that position for either grade. Seems strange so I tend to discount that rumour and wonder if we’ll promote from within or look outside?
Looking at the NRL team list VS panthers it’s just hard to see how we beat them with our forward pack?
I still think we desperately miss Luca Moretti. If you watch our games where we look most deadly Luca was often causing havoc up the middle especially playing off Walker.
Nice to see big Sam Tuivaiti is back in the team list.
I also thought Matt Doorey played close to his best game for us VS dragons.
That kick off return from Doorey sent that dragons player flying and had some real venom in some of his runs.
I know it’s a Cliche about your forwards winning the middle and then your halves & outside backs having a platform to play off..
But I personally feel parramatta’s chances almost exclusively lay in the hands of Jnr, Doorey, Sam Tuivaiti.
Because with the panthers you just never seem to beat them unless your forwards can’t get you into good field position and match Moses Leota & Co’s relentless physicality up the middle.
It will be very interesting to see Tallyn Da Silva debut for the eels – I wish the kid the best of luck on his parramatta eels debut blue 💙 💛
