The Tip Sheet – 2024 Ep 91: Eels Vs Dragons Previews, Hopgood Re-Signs

The Tip Sheet is also available on Spotify and iTunes!

The Jersey Flegg nervously await on two other results this week while the NRLW look to bounce back from a tough loss to the Knights. The backdrop to all of this is Parramatta’s final home game of the season in the NRL as The Tip Sheet previews a busy round against the St George Illawarra Dragons (and Wentworthville Magpies!).

Sixties and Forty20 discuss the member’s event hosted by the club this week that included the news of J’maine Hopgood’s extension. There are some bizarre tidings out of Tiger Town so the boys take a moment to look at what is happening there before the show turns to 5 previews.

Thanks for the show gents. Great show as always.
Happy to hear Hoppy has extended, he is a crucial part of our forward pack and a future leader. He has a Ray Price feel about him, goes hard, has no fear and leaves nothing on the field.
Gutho’s time at fullback may be coming to an end but his time at the Eels should be extended beyond next season. Gutho is a footballer, a warrior and a loyal Parra boy.
In my opinion, the club should transition Gutho into a 14. He would be the perfect utility to relieve Hands and cover every back line position and at a pinch could cover at edge and lock. Gutho has plenty to offer moving forward, his time on the field needs to managed, his time busting his arse for 80 minutes is coming to an end but a fresh Gutho playing managed minutes would be lethal off the bench.
Despite the season from hell, we are finally seeing some positives, a good signing and a contract extension, our coaching and conditioning staff have been settled and signing rumours to keep us fans optimistic for the 2025 season.
Also happy to hear Matto is part of plans next season.
All that’s left for me this season is to avoid the spoon and to watch the Bulldogs bundled out in week 1 of the finals.
Go Parra and go who ever plays the Bulldogs In week 1 of the finals.

Good points and I agree maté hopefully dogs get their ego checked. It’s the dogs fans that make them unbearable. Gutho is declining & injured.. and STILL our best player. What does that tell us? It would be absolutely ridiculous to get rid of him. You throw gutho where blaize or sivo is and we would leak 20-50% less tries on that side, he’s a smart footballer which cannot be taught. Gutho is a footballer, he would do a job anywhere. Matto staying & Hopgood extending I agree is good news. Matto is a good defender in the middle. He can cover edge, middle, lock, that’s a valuable asset to Ryles.. he just needs to keep Ryan hungry. Matto at his best effort wise is very good for us. Some Good times ahead I agree mate. We will be a completely different team next year, we might finally have a quick backline with actual depth. Ryles isn’t settling on the backs we have it sounds like.
