Surely did the King reign on his public holiday birthday but Mitchell Moses shone brightest as the Eels sent the Dogs packing 34-12. Sixties and Forty20 have plenty to unpack in this week’s Instant Reaction Podcast but it starts with a withering criticism of some bizarre rulings from the Bunker. From Sivo getting robbed of a clear try to straight up contradictory rulings on strips the boys unload.
Next it is time to break down big games from Mitchell Moses and Clinton Gutherson. Moses all but buried the competition for the NSW #7 with a sparkling effort while Gutherson bagged a first half hat-trick. Daejarn Asi and Brendan Hands also carried the load with expanded roles this week while Parramatta’s bench continues to lift with Ogden and Makatoa leading the rotational charge.
Long Live the King 🤴
Big match performance today
My vision of RCG did not come true but still an enjoyable win. As I said the Mick at the pub the Dogs are one trick doggies. Yes, they have speed but with no decent halves and not able to win the middle Parra has them generally well covered outside.
The one player I was really happy with was Daejran Asi. He did his job and did it well and looked very bit an NRL player.
I also like the next man up mantra the players have adopted. So far it is working and if Mitch does get selected then it will serve the team well next week.
And the perplexing, every changing decisions by the Bunker were the worst decisions of this King’s Birthday weekend other than myself being denied a knighthood yet again.
Better luck with the honours next year Shaun. The officiating left a lot to be desired.
There is a connection. I’m sure.
Very pleasing effort – when Burton scored to make it 6 a piece, he and the Dogs looked fired up, and I had the old ‘here we go again ….’ sinking feeling that Parra wouldn’t show up, and it would be one way traffic from there.
Was a super composed and mature response. Moses and the King – what a combination!
Daejarn really stepped up and was great, Hands was nimble at dummy half, and I got to say for mine, Bailey Simonsson has redeemed himself from an inauspicious start for us on the wing, since moving to centre.
Sivo seemed a bit out of sorts with the post tackle aggression, hope he reels that back in.
As for that ‘strip’ call from the Bunker and the ‘No Try’ to Sivo …. these bunker buffoons just continue to baffle.
Would have been okay with our first try being called back, but given the Moses charge down was contentious – happy that at least one went our way, as would have been annoyed if both denied.
Big mid-season shift for the team in terms of position, with healthy +/- in our back pocket.
Good times!
Those calls from the Bunker Chris were awful. And the ref obviously has issues with how Parra plays, and no issue with our opposition. We have received a grand total of 4 penalties across two games, two per game. He doesn’t think that teams infringe against Parra? Does he watch the ruck speed at all?
Should the Eels be chasing Flanagan for the rest of the season?
Firm no from me John.
I think the better option would be Brooks. He would be a lot more costly though.
I am basing this on the balance of this season only.
Agreed
Good win today ,but having watched nsw cup, hope we get no injuries to outside backs ,because as good as forwards depth is our backs depth is bad,
It was awful wasn’t it!
The availability of Joe Offa, Lane, Matteson, Greig, Hodgson, Blake, Dylan Brown would have made the NSW Cup team look a lot different…..
Yes it would, and our top 30 roster is sitting at about 27, so take out injuries and Dylan’s stand down and it’s a very skinny list.
Tks men.The bunker got the very last call right and I wonder if that 4 (or6) points avoided will come in to play at years end when top 8 is being sorted. Stranger things have happened…like tackle completed when bodies are still propelling forward. Like Pangai deliberately pushing Cartwright (from memory)down to try and draw an error, getting penalised, then straight away deliberately punching the ball from Moretti’s hand, not penalised, when a tackle was far more completed(compared to the first mentioned). Like in the Dogs second try, their No3 ran behind 2 players then passed the ball, Mahoney even put his arms up to acknowledge it, Hands was right behind the 2 players. No one blinked an eye, even the commentators. Interesting if Parra had done it. Strange days.
Strangely strange BDon.
With Moses now officially the NSW No.7, and DCE playing for Qld, what are the chances that Manly name JA at half this weekend and he has a blinder ;)?
It’s also Old Boys day on Saturday..bring in Sterlo to replace Mitch Moses..(and don’t tell anyone)….
👍👍👍
He will be playing for Manly.
Trent Barrett’s arrival at the Club seems to have improved the attack.
They did a lot of work in attack with him and Murf during the preseason.
