Team List Tuesday – Ma’u Returns to Starting Backrow, King Back For Wenty

NRL Team List

With two wins from three starts after running the gauntlet to start the season, coach Brad Arthur has stuck with what has been working for the Eels. Manu Ma’u slots straight back into the starting backrow following his suspension for a crusher tackle in Round 2, which in turn pushes Kenny Edwards back to the bench while David Gower falls to 18th man.

There isn’t honestly a great deal more insight that I can provide you with as Brad Arthur has had to do little-to-no tinkering to what has been a winning formula for the Eels!

Intrust Super Premiership Team List

After three rounds of the newly dubbed Intrust Super Premiership, the Wenty Magpies sit alone on top of the table. Their 30-14 victory over the Panthers in Round 3 highlighted the work that Joey Grima has done with the team as they turned a 12-10 half-time advantage into a dominant lead at the conclusion of the game. In spite of the flawless start to the season, Joey Grima has looked to tweak the formula a little bit with the Magpies hosting the reigning premiers, the Newcastle Knights, this week

John Folau, who can probably consider himself a bit unfortunate in this case, makes way for the seasoned veteran Ryan Morgan in the centres. Cameron King makes his return from a sternum injury sustained in Round 2 to secure the starting hooking duties. This causes a cascade of changes as Cody Nelson pushes into the backrow after filling in at hooker for King while James Hasson loses his starting jersey and will play from the bench. Scott Schulte is the most interesting selection from coach Grima. A natural winger, Schulte underwhelmed as a fullback in Rounds 1 and 2 before getting dropped to the Ron Massey Cup in Round 3 but now finds himself named on the bench. Schulte has some history in the backrow but Joey Grima has also shown that he is willing to carry an outside back on the bench, as we witnessed in our last-start victory where Ryan Morgan rode the pine before subbing in when Kieren Moss was injured. Speaking of Moss, he looks to be recovered from a nasty head knock on Sunday. Things looked rather serious on the weekend so his presence in the named team is a massive boon for the Magpies.

Thanks 40/20. Will French be a late starter? Or Ron Massey cup? And Folau? I thought he went well last week. Could he be a late starter in case Moss is no good?

And what great depth it is isn’t it Sixties?

I’m suspecting with French clear to play and the knock Moss took last week that Moss being named may act as a smokescreen for Bevan to be a late inclusion in the ISP

Has been outstanding Matt. Great pre-season and brained them in the matches so far. Powerful running and brutal defence. Scored a superb solo try in round 1 for Wenty. Won’t let the team down if called up but you wouldn’t drop anyone from the pack right now. Also, Rory O’Brien has made every post a winner so far too.

sixties is on the money here, matt. Kelepi has been a pillar for Wenty in their undefeated start to the year. He is playing massive minutes with both a high work-rate and a big impact. Can’t imagine that it has been over looked by the coaching staff but with our NRL team humming along all Kelepi can do is keep applying the pressure to the incumbents ahead of him.

Rory O’Brien looks to be a very astute pick up as well. Paul Devlin and the other support staff have stripped over 15kg from his frame and he is dominating the backed of games as the reduction in interchanges wears down the opposition forwards. Has shown the ability to stand tall through the attention of multiple defenders and possesses a very useful offload.

Spot on boys also Danny as a matter of fact as has been said before the forwards we have got are the best we have had for many a day.
