Team List Tuesday – Representative Round (& Jersey Flegg!) Edition

Jersey Flegg Team List

The Eels scored one of the more improbable victories you will see last weekend, even considering the litany of comebacks in the various iterations of the Under 20s. Trailing the New Zealand Warriors by 8pts with just under five minutes of play left, the Eels scored three tries in the most rapid forms of succession to storm home to a 32-24 win.

Unfortunately, results did not fall their way and they still remain 5pts adrift of the Top 8 but there is little doubt that they are a vastly improved outfit from the beginning of the season.

With the senior grades both enjoying byes this week, the Eels have not elected to bring back accelerated talents like Ethan Parry, Haze Dunster or Stefano Utoikamanu. Coach Dean Feeney will back his young troopers to account for the 12th placed Victoria Thunderbolts at McCredie Oval, Guildford.

Kick off is set for Saturday at 3pm.

Forty, what a wonderful wrap up of the Joysie Flogg game from last week. Standing there with H and Parrathruanthru it was exhausting to watch the big Kiwi side smash our players right across the field with a venom usually reserved for higher levels of skill and age. This continued for most of the 1st half and a good bit of the second half without us troubling the scorer more than a couple of times. As the day grew darker and colder an eerie awareness of the impossible caused an expectation that we might hold the ball when we broke the line to complete an attacking raid without the inevitable pounding from the Worriers which had caused most of our efforts to brake down up until then. You could sense that the longtime companion of NZ teams was about to arrive, and it did! They stopped moving up and hitting hard, started to miss tackles and were unable to chase with any vigor. Their own efforts were easily turned back and we started to brake the line with players in support. As they say in the classics “the rest is history”!
Players who earn recognition for playing until the fat lady sang include; Fanua, Taipari Afu, Bailey Biondi and a special mention to Jesse Cronin who was superb in attack and aggressively solid in defense. We look to have another Ray Stone type player emerging.

When you consider how much young talent is currently playing in the CC, and many critics of the club don’t, the performance of this team is very commendable.

They are not much chance of making the GF or of even making the finals. However what is important is that they are able to identify future NRL players and develop their skills for a future in the NRL

John Eel, I believe they are mate, but I would not like to see a return to the the JF back as main preliminary game to NRL fixtures or even the notion that these boys could consider themselves ahead of Reserve Grade players who are in the interim CC where boys get to be tested against men and men are able to show they have more right to a start in the NRL because they have earned it through years of hard slog not just a dream run playing against kids with big bodies.without showing they can handle the rigors of physical contest week in, week out against tough bastards who have been doing it consistently against other men. Let the boys show they are worth a shot in Reggies before they think about NRL.

Rowdy I obviously did not make my point very well. What I was trying to say was that this very young JF side is performing well despite the fact that the best players in that age group have been promoted to CC.

I agree with you that NRL recruits should come through CC. I was never advocating for NRL recruits to come directly from JF.

Playing kids out of there age group not only accelerates their skill development but also seperates the good footballers from the bullies.

Can’t argue with that John Eel. I reckon I will be able to get to McCredie Park on Satureday and rtecord whatever international game is on elsewhere.
