The Cumberland Throw

Vale Denis Anderson

Along with thousands of Parramatta supporters, and countless Eels players and staff, the Cumberland Throw was deeply saddened by the passing of Denis Anderson. We extend our sympathies to Denis’ family, loved ones and close friends.

The club and the media have rightly paid tribute to Denis. Even so, how do you find the right words to describe the lifetime dedication he made to the Eels?

I got to know Big D at Junior Rep matches and at Parramatta Eels training. Denis didn’t mince his words. He spoke with passion about his club and you knew exactly how he felt about his team, his boys, and with the introduction of the Tarsha Gale competition, his girls.

It’s also fair to say that few stories could compare to a Big D recollection.

Back in January of 2018, Denis sat down with TCT to talk about his decades with the club.

What better tribute could we pay than to again share this with you? It’s Denis Anderson, in his own words.

Rest In Peace legend.

A Big D cook up and a story or two was the best! You couldn’t record some of the funniest, but his audience would be in stitches. The love between Big D and Parramatta was very mutual.
Thanks for adding your condolences Rev.

Dennis is a true character of not only our club, but the game itself, because he was respected at so many levels throughout the game and opposing club officials. Vale Dennis Anderson and condolences to the entire Anderson family; and the club as his second family. R I P Big “D” we have lost you far too soon, you have touched the lives of many, inspired the lives of many more. God Bless to those affected by your passing.

Thanks for posting this. I remember him when I was 12yo at Cumberland! Complete club man like Len Stacker. RIP Denis. Sadly missed & love the tribute. Without characters like DA & others, the passion would not be as strong as it is.
