Team List Tuesday – Dog Days Edition

NRL Team List

Like the gluttons for punishment that we all are, once more we converge together to discuss the happenings of Team List Tuesday. The Eels are back in action on Thursday night where they face one of their fellow 2018 stragglers in the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The fallout from their 18-16 loss to the Newcastle Knights, their 14th loss of the season, continued today with the news that Cameron King will missing in action for nearly the remainder of the season after picking up a knee injury. Said injury report now resembles something closer to a short novel than a cursory read with eight players now sitting in the stands.

In light of King’s injury Brad Arthur has reinstated Kaysa Pritchard to the starting dummy half role in the only significant change to the top seventeen this week. Reed Mahoney does however lurk in the shadow bench this week and could be a real possibility to deputise Pritchard against the Bulldogs.

It is a dull TLT otherwise though folks, or rather it is dull for the NRL team perhaps as there is some significant news for the ISP team list!

It is worth noting that Marata Niukore continues to hold down his starting position in the backrow, even now in the second week since Tepai Moeroa returned from suspension.

Intrust Super Premiership Team List

Alas Wenty’s season is now on life support following their 40-22 loss to the St George Illawarra Dragons. They are now 2.5 wins adrift of the 8th placed Blacktown Workers and would need something close to a miracle to both win the requisite games and have results fall their way.

Despite the disillusioning situation painted above, it isn’t all doom and gloom! In the most significant news of TLT this week, Dylan Brown will make his ISP debut this week. The standout young play-maker has starred in the SG Ball and Holden Cup/Jersey Flegg in the last two seasons and will now test his mettle in senior footy. Impressively, Brown still has a further two years of eligibility in the Jersey Flegg so his jump to the ISP is that much more eye-catching!

The Magpies will be without the services of Kirisome Auva’a for two weeks after the powerful centre injured his foot last week. Oregon Kaufusi has been named on the edges for the second consecutive week so perhaps there is indeed a longer term plan in action here.

Jersey Flegg Team List

The Eels stayed in touch with the Top 4 following their 44-12 dismantling of the St George Illawarra Dragons last week. A huge battle with the 3rd placed Cronulla Sharks now looms with the result of this match likely having important repercussions for how the top of the ladder will shake out.

As mentioned above, the Eels will be without the services of their star halfback Dylan Brown after his promotion to the ISP. Todd Sapinza will likely play the role of senior play-maker to Jaydn Field as a result. John Fonua played a starring role in the thumping victory over the Dragons and will need to carry that form into this week as the Eels look to continue their surge into the upper echelons of the ladder.

Mahoney really needs to be on the bench, allowing Kaysa to not fade in the big moments, and giving real time and experience to this young prospect
Also Takz deserves a few weeks in Wenty defence practice. This way Gower can share minutes with Moeroa (begrudgingly) and our edges can have a bit more stability. Only worry with that is who / when to rest Brown.

Just some anon thoughts about the top side. Thanks for the week in week out coverage Forty & co.

Reed is part of the development squad and due to Kaysa and/or King being available he won’t be selected unless the club gets permission from the NRL.

Anon I agree with your thoughts on Reed I believe that the more minutes he can get in the NRL the better at this stage of his career. You would have to think that he will pretty much have a bench spot next year the way things are going. If he does not get one it will be hard for the Eels to hang onto him.

BA has played Peni at lock this season so he could easily rest Brown. His handling problems aside he has had a good year so far.

Is there any read on Salmons form in recent times in ISP?

  3. The rev aka Snedden.

Good n short n straight to the point.

Any news on marata niukore re-signing. I know his off contract this yeah I think the eels need to lock him up on a 3/4 year deal.

On paper our teams back line looks a lot better then the dogs but I’m worried yet again. Dogs are putting in. Our side are only doing it in patches. I hope we put in a 80 min performance. If we can do that we win n win well. I’m really hoping we sign segeyaro I’m over KP n CK.

It’s time we got a 80 DH n one that’s not alway injured. I had high hopes for Cam king after watching him kicking from DH n running the ball last year.

Mom Hayne he always lifts for the dogs game.

I’m just wondering will Dylan Brown actually play for Wenty or once the first grade team gets cut back will Jaeman Salmon got back there?

To me Kaysa has had plenty of time to of made that position his and has failed as King who is average holds him out when not injured and gets back in so to me Mahoney needs to be given the rest of the year to be given a chance to make the position his. BA needs to look to the future starting next year and that is by blooding juniors to see who will be upto it and planing for next year instead of persevering with those who are not up to it or wont be given a contract.

Agree with that Anon, look how Niukore has gone on with his game since he was given the chance. Mahoney, Aukafolau, Stone and Greg L should see some game time so they can see what it is like to play NRL. Without that experience they will not know what is expected from them when they get the chance. Season is over, time to experiment and look to the future.
Not sure if all these players are eligible but those that are should be given a go.

Dogs games usually close fought. You can almost pick it now, completions/possession will tip it one way or another. If we can get Corey Norman into the red zone more than fleetingly then all the better.
Pritchard and Moeroa both typify our season, injured, stop, start, no fluency. They both have great RL instincts but not realising their full potential( I get the Pritchard knockers, maybe he ll never adjust to his strengths).
Reed M- if you get a run, no forward passes.
