Big League Feature – Brad Arthur Finding His Happy Place

This week in the Big League Magazine, Pamela Whaley has written a tremendous feature article on Brad Arthur. The article gives Eels fans a great insight into Arthur’s passion for coaching and a little bit of a look at what makes him tick.

In encouraging people to purchase Big League this week, I’d like to highlight the following highlights  from her feature:

  • Brad Arthur has been coaching his Rouse Hill Rhinos junior team for the last four years, juggling the demands NRL coaching and junior coaching for the past 3 years. His young charges have qualified for 3 consecutive grand finals.
  • Coaching junior footy is as much of a passion for Arthur as coaching at NRL level, with his enjoyment of coaching without pressure being a genuine attraction of coaching the Rouse Hill kids. As he says, “This is just pure fun with no judgement. You get enjoyment out of seeing the kids having fun and getting better too.”
  • Both of Arthur’s boys, Jake (the Snake) and Matthew (Boods) play for the Rouse Hill club, Jake being in the under 14s team coached by BA and Matthew taking the field with some older boys in the 11s

  • BA barely misses games, even with his NRL commitments, and will catch early flights home after interstate games to ensure that he’s back in time for the junior matches.
  • The straight talking approach of Arthur is appreciated by his NRL team, and the junior players hang off his every word

I’d certainly encourage Eels fans to grab a copy of Big League to read Pamela Whaley’s wonderful feature. You’ll get a genuine appreciation of Brad Arthur the man and his commitment to junior league and the great game of rugby league.

This guy is the person we have been waiting for to get this great club back to where it belongs, At the top of the ladder, not another Peter Sterling like everyone seems to think. Let’s face it, The previous boards are the reason we are not there this season. Brad & the team have certainly won enough games to be in the top 8 & who knows how well we could have gone without the off field issues this season. As bad as it has been it has shown us all just how good Brad Arthur really is. I saw Brad at a junior footy game a couple of weeks ago & he shook my hand with a smile & was happy to have a quick chat, although I was probably blubbering garbage because I felt a bit star struck, I felt friggin awesome. This guy truly is our saviour, good players will want to play under him & the way he talks about the current Eels player’s shows exactly why they want to stay at the Eels.
    IN BRAD WE TRUST.

Thanks for the reply mate. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a couple of quick chats with Brad. I’m always conscious of not disturbing him when he’s on coaching duties so I never overstep the mark. He absolutely loves his s job and the club so he gives up so much of his time. However, the one thing that I know about BA is that the supporters are important to him so he will always give a hello.
Another important factor to him is family. I should have mentioned this in my review, but it has become a great family club. Players are given time to care for family when they need to (see Radradra) and you often see kids down at training on certain days. It goes a long way to explaining the reason that the team play for each other and Brad.

Nice 60s and its always nice to hear about young Snake Arthur, the kid was even polite enough to ask me if he could use my name, he’ll go far.

Great read and none of this surprises me. He is an unbelievable leader IMO; and practices what he preaches.
His ‘make no excuses’ policy makes the club better along with his hard work ethic.
His boys are also talented young men with Jake making NSW Reps when in primary schools and no doubt vying for junior reps (15’s) soon with Parra.
We all just hope the interim board put in place what is required along with some good footy heads to work with BA and co.
Agreed Brad, in BA we trust.
