The Centre Question

Here’s what we believe at TCT:

Lafai and Hiku – there was a genuine interest but the prices became well above their genuine value. Firstly, there wasn’t going to be a bidding war from Parra. Secondly, when figures start to approach the half million and a bloke like Semi is on far less, it’s far better to look to upgrading him than pay overs for these blokes.

Roberts – there was only ever one destination for him and we would never have been in the ball park money wise.

Someone else? – it’s possible. We will offer the opportunity to play first grade, with quality halves and a strong pack. Again, there won’t be a bidding war and everything that we do is under the microscope.

Gutherson – Most likely to be the starter.

I am very happy with the new and improved attitude and structure surrounding our recruitment process at the club.
I believe the one year ‘trial’ contracts are a very smart move by the club, along with the club refraining from entering opportunistic bidding wars.
We have a massive junior nursery and I’m sure we have the right people in place to ensure many of these talented youngsters will be top line, first graders in years to come.
‘Breed ’em tough, local and reward effort’.

It’s a big year for the eels and Brad Arthur in 2016.
    Go you eels!

    Sixties,

Pretty much on the mark I think. The days of Parra paying over are gone. As you explained we have a very capable halves pairing. and looking at one wing and one centre which are excellent and a specialist fullback to boot. If we reach the heights of what is expected in 2106 then there will be centres and wingers lining up for 2017.

    1) I think Tyrell Fuimaono will step up this year. He has a big motor on him, and a good head on his shoulders.
    2) The club can always utilise Beau Scott as a right-side centre. There’s plenty of forward depth to call upon that will allow for this to happen.
    3) I’d like to see a bid made for Tautau Moga. He does have a history of serious injury to contend with, but surely he’s not all washed-up at age 22! It will certainly add to our Townsville contingent at Parra – even if Tautau played for Mackay in the Qld Cup and Kelepi was Parra’s to begin with!
    4) Wouldn’t mind seeing Titans’ NYC player, Tyrone Roberts Davis head Parra’s way. Fancies himself as a fullback, but if he were to step up and play NRL, he’d add to the club’s depth at right wing. He is quite tall, cousin to James Roberts and very (early) Inglis-like in his movement… Cheers.

Like Chris I think we may see Tyrell step up to first grade this year. Even though he’s played second-row for most of his junior career his body shape and the way he plays is very similar to a first grade centre. He’s strong to be able to take on the defender head on and he has very good agility. The biggest question would be his defence and whether or not his decision making at centre is up to first grade standard…maybe a start off the bench for Tyrell?

I’m happy with Gutho being our centre for the time being, he just has to stay on the field and his development will be unreal. It then just becomes a matter of who then becomes our “winger” on that side of the field. I’m okay with Morgan.

Sixties do you know what BA is doing for a half back next year ?
I’m worried that we will go into 2017 with out a recognised #7 to help Norman.
      Are you hearing anything ?
